It's the big chip on the drive chipset.Look here.

But it's probably the D2E the Op mentioned.

Make sure you patch your disc to autoboot before burning.

Didn't mean to make this a second post on the same thing, I thought they were two seperate issues: 1 - Wii that's failed and won't show the 'press A' and 2 - WiiKey fusion won't allow me to eject a disc, burned or not. I apologize for any misguidance on those. I had fully intended to go back to the original thread once I was able to sort the WiiKey issue, so not a problem merging them.

mauifrog: I'm using the netflix disc you had me download from the original thread. I thought it was already autoboot patched, if that's not the case, please let me know and I will go through threads and learn how to configure it for autoboot.

I did finally get it to eject discs now when I press the button. I kept re-seating the cables and it accepted, spun the disc, then ejected it, so I think I am ready to move on.

    EDIT:

Apparently, there are 2 chips on the drive that have GC2-XXX, the largest one says GC2-D1A the smaller one next to it does have the D2E on it. I'm not able to add it as an attachment to the post, but I did find the D2E that was mentioned. Either way, it's still not running the burned netflix disc.

    Wii ISO Autoboot Patcher

Edit to address your edit (lol): Did you use the above tool on your netflix iso yet?

yes, I used the autoboot patcher on it and still no joy. Again, I wasn't able to eject the disc until I disconnected the wiikey and connected the host cable back to the drive directly.

Playing around with it some more, I burned a Universal Unbrick 4 disc, and it DOES eject with the WiiKey connected. Not sure what the difference would be between the two, other than I think I used incremental mode with the netflix autoboot patched disk and default settings in imgburn for the UUD.

I'm considering opening my launch day wii and pulling the drive from it to try on this one and see if it will make a difference. Anyone have an idea if it will?
Otherwise, I'm thinking I might grab a broken/used wii off CL just for the drive and hope that it works. If it's cheap enough, it won't matter too much. I figure I can spend a little more before I go over the cost of having just replaced this wii with a used unit from gamestop or somewhere.

The Starfox disc booted and is now asking for the classic controller (which I don't have). Going to look at the other steps you had posted and see if I can figure out what to do next. Thanks!

OK, your chip and drive are working fine. You can't do much with the starfox disc, just lets you know it is working, possibly swapdisc to ssbb with it, but I doubt it. What about the netflix disc? That is the one you want to load. If you can't get netflix to boot, you'll need to load smash stack pal via disc swap.

reburning the netflix disc now, will let you know what happens. Thanks for all the help so far.

Netflix booted, I clicked the 'enter settings' and it's now stuck at that screen with it half-faded away.
