Maybe try swapping drives with a friend to see if it works in his/hers wii and to see if the drive works in your wii.

That's one long sentence isn't it?
Commas (,) and periods (.) would do wonders for you.

well, his name is franic (I suspect it should've been frantic, lol) and he's a typing machine of the magnitude of motor mouth on sites so of course he's going to write long-winded sentences without brakes, pauses, or any other sort of thing so that by the time you complete reading the single thought you're telling yourself it's time for bed i'm worn out and perhaps answer some other day when you've pumped yourself up with caffeine, cocaine, or anything else that gets your freak on (if of such persuasion; i know you and i are not). How's that for an equally long-winded, empty response?

Did you remove the anti-static solder ball that is on the ribbon cable? If that has not been removed the new laser will not power on.

If you touched the laser it needs to be cleaned with +90% isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip.

Take the top half of the drive off. Push the laser all the way out. Turn on system and make sure laser moves back down. Move disc motor with your finger, it should move freely.

It is also possible that the laser you received is bad.
