I didn't set that hack in priloader and I have not messed with anything. I have to say here that I have always trusted in maui's guide even with the possobility of bricking. Everything was fine, and I have no idea why my wii bricked. I trust I will be able to fix it following your link.

@shiftlock: I downloaded dop mii to my desktop in preparation for fixing my wii. I loaded my wii using priloader, then scrolled down to launch homebrew channel, then inserted my sd card. I then pressed the home button and voila! My wii loaded up like it's supposed to. As I said, I don't know what happened, but although I was prepared to go through any and all steps to recover my wii, I didn't have to. Thank you for your help, and if I have any further problems I will follow the guide in your link, then contact you if it doesn't work. Thanks to all who responded.

@shiftlock: that is sound advice I intend to follow. Thank you. As I stated in my previous post, I had downloaded dop mi; I had also backed up my sd card in preparation to reformatting it. When I loaded the sd while on the proloader screen prior to clicking on load the homebrew channel I had not yet re-formatted it. This is just FYI for the experts. It may or may not make a difference, and I sure as hell don't know if it did. That is why I will indeed re-soft mod. You guys rock!!!

    .....
was the sd in when it black screened on you?

If it was then you may have a different issue.. you can try seeing if the wii boots normally with the sd removed if it does then you may have priiloader set to auto boot from sd and something on there may be corrupt or not on there at all..

So if this is the case then all you have to do is:
Start priiloader>>>Go into Setting>>>Autoboot and make sure it is set to System Menu. Also set Return to System Menu.

@Shift_lock: yes, my sd card was in (as it always is) when my wii black screened on me. I didn't know to remove it to load priloader until I read mauifrog’s OH SH*T: Black Screen of WII!!! guide. Some interesting info which may or may not help: I was talking to my grandson just a few minutes ago about this issue. He told me he removed my sd card from the wii to use in his cell phone because he wanted to save and upload some pictures to facebook. I don't know if that is relevant or not. He said he removed a picture and video folder that had been added to the card, so of course I had no clue.

the vid and pictures could have messed with something but check your priiloader settings and follow the directions in the last post I made.

Try to backup and format the SD card, then just do chapter 3 again

Sorry for responding to your question so late--had to stop and do routine family stuff. My wii booted normally without the sd card in (this was after I booted the wii using priloader). When I inserted my sd card, the wii did not boot and I had the black screen. I guess my grandson managed to corrupt some file that was on there. I had already copied the files from the sd card and following mauifrog's advice in the next post started from chapter 3. My wii now boots from the sd card; thank you so much for your help.

I did backup and format the sd card and did chapter 3 again; my wii now boots normally with the sd card in, Thank you. Question about chapter 3. I downloaded the Yu-GI-VA mirror and the Nintendo Backup(250) file. I have not extracted the YU-GI-VA file to my sd yet. Does the Nintendo Backup file need to be extracted to a Verbatim DVD disk (I have read that this is the best dvd disk to use for game backups). Another question: can I now put the files I backed up back on the sd card? My concern is that I don't know what caused my sd card to fail and I don't want to put data back on there that may be corrupted.
