Question What modchip to unbrick GC2 D2C drive ? (And other questions…)

    Hi!

I think I have a full brick Wii and I would like to know what is best modchip to solve it.

My Wii DVD drive is GC2 D2C.
I don't have Bootmii, neither Preloader/Priiloader, nor NAND Backup (but I can have some NAND backup from some other Wii).

    How did it brick:
-The person who gave this Wii to me told me he was playing Metroid Other M for the very first time with USB Loader GX (a while ago).
-He thinks he accepted some update, but was able to play.
-Then he pressed "Home" button or Pause and went to work.
-When he came back from work he had some black screen.
-And since there is always this black screen or no signal.

What did I tried so far:
-I used the SaveMiiFree GameCube controller tip.
First I thought it didn't work because of my bad timing
That's why I trained on some other Wii to get the perfect timing.
I tried again on the bricked Wii and I've never seen the firmware number.
According to the person who gave me this Wii he has probably done 4.3E update with Metroid Other M or so.

-Then I switched Wii DVD player and whole wi-fi module (the 3-parts thing).
Result: my Wii DVD Player and wi-fi module seems to work on a other unbricked Wii. But other DVD player or Wi-fi module doesn't unbrick my Wii.

    So here are my questions:
    1) What do you suggest to do or try next?

    2) From what I've read here (great ressources by the way) I need to program flash with some modchip.
But what modchip should I choose for my GC2 D2C drive?
What is the best modchip: Infectus, Infectus 2, Driverkey/Wasabi DX?

    3) How do we solder modchip? On Wii DVD drive or on Wii motherboard? Are modchip with clipping system as good as the soldering one?

    4) Once I have fixed my Wii and reinjected NAND, could I remove modchip and use it to solve other Wii?
Or will I always need to have modchip to be able to play?
If so I guess modchip without soldering are better.

Please let me know about it.

    Jabe

I could be wrong and I will be corrected I'm sure if I am wrong but I don't think a modchip will help you unless you can get SaveMiiFrii to show you the System Menu version aka recovery mode.

Your only hope if so, is if it is boot2 compatible and then have a programmer fix it for you.

I told you Savemiifree doesn't work, already tried it (with GameCube controller).

I live in south France and I don't know any programmer near me.

I think my Wii is boot2 compatible.
    Serial number starts with LEF101148…

I know how to use some iron (I used to put Wiikey before softmod), I used to flash cellphones firmware too, so i think I can handle it.

With this forum as ressource it should be ok.

But first I need to know what "programming modchip" to use.

It's not some DVD backup reading modchip, but modchip to be able to program NAND.

I think it's the best thing to do in my case.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

You need an Infectus. Look here for a guide. Also your serial number is not on this list of boot2 compatible serial numbers but it is earlier then the ones listed so I'm guessing that it is. Just don't quote me on that.

If for some reason you don't think you are up for it then here is a list of programmers.

Ok thanks that's what I thought.
Could you please answer my questions.

I don't see where it has been answered, is it inside some other topic?

I can't see kojiii's post neither. Maybe he answered it?

Have a look at the guide that I linked. All you need to know is there. Kojiii's post didn't make since at all and even if it did it doesn't apply to your post. You asked about a modchip to use to flash a nand and that is an Infectus2 as covered in the guide.
