Is this a brick? Help and Suggestions please.

    Hi,

Ive just been given a nintendo wii. I was told it froze on the health and safety screen. I assumed they ment when booting games. Anyway it came today and i turned it on fine. Went into settings, checked system firmware which was 3.3. Then was going to reset it all to factory default but it had parent code on so i turned it off and went to ring the person i got it from to get the code.

Turned it back on, and it freezes on the first black healthy and safety screen every time. Yeah, now i realise where it freezes and that i was lucky to get it on. Wish id not turned off now lol.

Question is, does this sound like a bad update or somthing? Any other ideas what the problem could be. Ive not managed to get it back on but if i do i plan to install bootmii etc and go ahead with softmod including update to latest system menu. Then if it still has the problem restore it from a nand backup. Good idea?

    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a mail brick to me. Enter system menu at maintenance mode. Press and hold + - buttons at health warning screen until the system menu comes up. If it works then you can recover while in maintenance mode by reinstalling your system menu IOS and system menu.

You could also do a reformat from the system settings.

Do not update the system menu to 4.3 as that isn't necessary.

Kool thanks will give that a go. Nah i would never update to 4.3 lol. Only update i would do is the one in the softmod guide. But will get this sorted first.

EDIT: Just turned it on after leaving it unplugged for 5 hours and im past the health screen again so going to put bootmii on now before i do anything else. Also there is no sound which is odd but also another indication somthing wrong with it lol. Will update again later.

EDIT 2: Ok so tried to load hackmii from the sd slot and i just got a black screen and carnt get back on again now. Also tried the + - to enter recovery but that not worked either. Will leave it unplugged again now while i go out and try again tomorow.

As I said, it sounds exactly like a mail brick because you wouldn't be able to access the system menu at all if it were anything else. Disabling the message board by entering in maintenance mode should get you into the system menu. Try it again, press and hold + - together at health warning screen and keep holding, do not release the buttons until the system menu comes up.

The only other thing it can be is a banner brick but I don't know why you would be able to access the system menu at all if this were the case.

Did you try accessing priiloader by holding reset at start up?
Does it have boot2 Bootmii (if the drive light blinks twice at startup you have boot2)

Do you know if this Wii has been softmodded at all? If it has, what guide was used?

    Hi thanks for the reply.

Tried the + - again. held them down for bout 2mins but nothing. Is this long enough?

Pritty sure this wii has had no softmod at all. No bootmii and no priiloader are on it either.

EDIT: I plugged my other wii in to check out maintanance mode and i see what you mean. Yeah that isnt loading but probs because the press A to continue does not usually show up. If i get the press A again ill try + - again.

The wii dont even sound to healthy when i turn it on if im honest so thing im going to strip it down tomorow and chop and change a few hardware components to see if its a hardware failure. Will update again tomorow after ive done that.

Okay, that makes a little more sense. So the health warning screen doesn't always come up? I bet you're having an issue with your bt or wifi module. Bad_Ad84 had mentioned having a couple bad wifi modules that would work sometimes and not others. Sounds like you have a similar issue.

When you strip it, remove the dvd drive and try powering it on with the drive disconnected.

    Ok update for you.

Tried the wii with the dvd drive unplugged. No change. Still getting health screen but no press A to continue.

Swapped the wifi module for the one out my working wii, and no change. Still no press A to coninue.

Swapped the wifi module back and changed the BT module for the one out my working wii, and no change. Still no press A to continue.

Hmmm, this is proving to be quite a stuborn sob lol.
