well... something must've happened
power surge? knocked over?
Hello, I am trying to fix a Wii for a friend of mine, and I was hoping someone here might be able to help. When you turn it on it goes to the health and warning screen and will not get any further. The "Press A button to start" does not show up, and I was not able to get a remote to synch up. I asked my friend if he attempted to mod it and he says he did not. I also asked him if it had crashed during an update, and he said that has not happened either. I'm wondering if it is bricked, and also if it is fixable. Thanks!!
I don't know, I guess power surge may be a possibility. He had plugged an Ipod into it. I figured a power surge would create issues with either the power cord or the console powering on.
I was just throwing things out there.
try to get into maintenance mode (while holding plus and minus at the health screen, click A), but can it hurt to try?
you can always check to see if bootmii is installed as boot2 or priiloader is installed. Although probably not as you said he said it wasn't softmodded.
To check bootmii as boot2 - when you turn on the wii, if the dvd drive flashes twice, boot2 is installed, once it isn't.
To check priiloader - Hold reset when turning on the wii.
I would have to say that try to get into maintenance mode is your best option. If that doesn't work then he will probably have to send it to Nintendo for repair.
sounds like a mail brick or maybe theme brick?
What system menu was it on before the brick? You can try updating from a retail disc using RM if maintenance mode doesn't work.
Try maintenance mode first: Press and hold + - at health warning screen until the system menu comes up. If it does then you can recover from there. (BTW you will need your friend's remote to do this since you can't sync yours.)
If that doesn't work you will need to make a Savemiifrii and try updating from recovery mode. You should update to the lowest SM possible e.g. if on SM 4.0 - 4.1 you should update to 4.2 but not 4.3.
Also, If the Wii still has the trucha bug (SM 3.2 or lower) there may be recovery disc options with a modchip.
If the maintenance mode loads for you, go to the wii settings and do a system format- this should fix the issue. You would lose all your saves, so if you care you can softmod the wii from the maintenance menu and backup them up with the savegame manager.
