I had a wii that had sound but not video (it was plugged in when lightning struck)
Turned out all I needed was a component cable, the composite cable worked fine, I guess the lightning messed up something on the wii so it couldn't use a composite cable anymore
Not sure if this will help, but here it is anyway

Thanks for the info, but I don't completely understand. I only have one "slot" for a/v cables on the wii, and of course it splits into the Yellow, Red, & White cables.

This is due to the AV encoder chip being damaged. (from what me and erikie have found so far at least) I need to swap one over to 100% confirm it.

The component cables connect to different outputs on the chip and therefore work.

I have several boards like this

The component cables plug into the same slot as the regular av cables, just different ends for hd compatible tv's

Update: I sent Wii to Nintendo for repair. Apparently, they are checking for modifications as they would not repair it because the tech found that it had been "modified" (homebrew). They sent it back to me @ no cost. Is there anything else I can try? No video or sound. Thanks again!

Thanks! I found a "Wii component a/v cable" on Amazon made my Intec with 5 "RCA" connections on the other end...is this the one I need?
