    Un-modded Wii "system files corrupt"

    Hi all,

I have an original first generation Wii and recently received the "system files are corrupt" screen. I have fixed it to the point where my son can play games again, but I cannot get into the "Settings" panel, and therefore cannot setup an internet connection. It has never been modded.

I have modded our XBOX several times (both the original and the 360) so I am familiar with the procedures.

My question is: Can I download the official system files and restore the wii to factory settings via an SD card? I can't seem to find the files on the net anywhere despite hours of searching. Also, it doesn't appear that I can softmod the wii either as I cannot access the internet and I do not know what version I am working with. Is that assumption correct?

So is there any way to fix this so I can then softmod the wii?

    Thanks!!

You have a so called 'semi-brick'. You can fix it using this guide: Semi-Brick, system settings locked, Opera error.. You might want to install the homebrew channel and bootmii. Bootmii will give you the ability to make your wii unbrickable, if it indeed is a first generation wii.

Thanks to both of you for the help!!

One question before I proceed - since I cannot access system settings, how can I determine which version of firmware I currently have? I need to know whether it is 3.0-4.1 or 4.2, etc right?

    Thanks a million!!!

Well, you can buy (or rent or borrow) the new super mario bros. wii game, which will update you to 4.1. If it doesn't, you are either already on 4.1, or on 4.2 or 4.3.

It's called Softmod Any Wii for a reason. It doesn't matter what version your are on. If you start with chapter 2 and just follow the guide from there you will end up on SM 4.1.

edit: sorry i was thinking of the wrong thread.

Just try all of the banner bombs in chapter 1 until you find one that works.

If you get an error that means you are on 4.3 and will have to use that option or follow the 4.3 softmod guide in my signature.

See if you can get into the settings menu with the message board disabled. At the health warning screen press and hold + - together until the system menu comes up. You will get a message saying your message board has been disabled click OK and then proceed to the wii settings.

If that works then your fix would be to reinstall your system menu IOS and your system menu. Which the guide Krafter posted will do for you.

    OK,

So I am on Chapter 2 of Krafter's guide and I have the 4.2 on the Wii. The guide says to "Run MD5SUMMER.exe" However it doesn't show up on the card when the SD card in is the Wii. I can see the file is on the card in my Mac, but how do I run that file? Incidentally, when I extract all the WADS, I get 24 installs and 24 failures, so I'm assuming the missing MD5SUMMER.exe file is the cause of this.

Sorry for the questions, but I think I am getting close to repairing this.

On another note - I tried the +/- trick that was suggested and I still cannot access the Wii system settings. I keep getting the "System Files Corrupted" message.

    Thanks for all the help!

MD5summer.exe is a PC application, not a Wii one. I believe you meant Mauifrog's guide, Krafter just pointed you to it.

Well of course - that makes sense!

However, when I install the WADS, only 24 of 48 install. The first 24 do not. According to the guide I cannot proceed to Part 3 until all the WADS have been installed.
