Autoboot game works, normal boot does not

I tried looking through the forum and searching, but I couldn't find any exact matches or clear directions on what to do.

I had a bricked Wii (banner?) that would only give a "corrupt system" message. Recently, the message itself seemed garbled on the screen.

I got Mario Galaxy 2 to get the 4.2 update(I was on 4.1(USA)). At first it didn't seem to take. When I tried it a second time, using a wireless GameCube controller to get to the recovery mode, it loaded the game. I hope this is good news! I think it means the modchip I installed is working and is set to autoboot.

I tried booting a burned DVD that had AB Anyregion Changer 1.1b and it didnt work. It just stays at the "4.2(USA)" screen.

Is there something special I need to do to burn such a DVD?

I'm thinking that if I can boot some sort of system menu reloader app, I could restore this Wii back to it's normal, non-modded state. I have another Wii, so this would be a backup and I don't mind if it's not modded.

    Any other suggestions?

You need a patched system menu IOS or other patched IOS to load a restore disk. The disk won't get past the security checks otherwise.

Did the 4.2 update take? Does recovery mode show 4.1 still or 4.2? Go into recovery mode without a disk in the drive to find out.

You will have to remove your modchip to install the 4.2 update otherwise it will just keep autobooting the game rather then installing the update. This is of course assuming you have a legit retail game and not a burned copy of the game.

I'm also assuming you don't have bootmii as boot2 or priiloader correct?

I think the update took since it says 4.2(USA) in the lower right corner in recovery mode.

    It's a real, legit MG2 disk.

I don't have bootmii as boot2 or priiloader. Not sure I knew about these when I modded it years ago.

OK. I don't know why this works but it has for me on numerous occasions so it's worth a try since you can autoboot games.

Try autobooting a legit game with the Wii motion plus video on it. Watch the motion plus video in it's entirety and after the video ends try rebooting to your system menu. It may take a couple tries but as I said, I've been able to get to the system menu on a bricked wii this way in the past. Also, when were you getting the system corrupt message... before health warning screen or after?

    Read this- http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...oot-disks.html
Post 5 and post 6 are probably the only two that will work for you. Perhaps post 7 or post 8 depending on how you modded your wii and what version of ios36 was installed prior to your 4.2 update.

And if that motion video works, we should probably add it to the list. Never heard of it, learn something knew every day. Time to bannerbrick my wii and play wii sports resort.

I'm trying to test out the Mario Kart system menu IOS wad replacement from the guide you posted above but for some reason I can't get WBFS Manager to extract Mario Kart with all partitions included in the ISO. For some reason all the ISO's I extract from my HD only have the game partition as partition 0. There are no update partitions at all. Wondering if you know how to extract both partitions. (I would've posted this in the guide but It's been locked up.)

Let me know how unbricking with wii sports resort goes (believe I used Sandlot Sluggers). Like I said... It's worked for me a few times and I found it when I was desperate one day messing around with anything I could think of.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I'll try the video trick with Sports Resort since my nand is not almost full(#5), I dont have Wii Fit(#6), I don't have a Mario Kart iso(#7)(but I do have a real Mario Kart), and the video trick seems the least invasive. I don't have any of the games mentioned, so I'll have to rent it.

    Stay tuned.

Most usbloader are configured to only copy the game partition to the hd, but this can be changed to copy 1:1 iso.

If you write up the requirements for the motion video fix, what if fixes, what it does not, etc, it will be moved over into the recovery menu thread. Just write it up.

I will get working on that.

Completed some more testing on this fix and here's what I've found out.

Seems to only work on Low-Level Bricks (corrupt boot1 or boot2)
Does not work on Banner Bricks or Full Bricks (obviously)

Going through my stash of bricked Wii's now and hopefully I have another low-level brick here. Once the system menu is temporarily back from the motion plus trick I have to figure out the best way to do the fix (possibly using nand formatter?). I used the nand formatter for my previous fixes however, I'm not sure it's necessary. Any input?

FYI - I tried the Mario Kart patched system menu IOS installation with the disk patched to IOS36 and it doesn't work. The game boots fine but when I try to install the channel in settings it just black screens and does nothing else. I haven't tried patching it to IOS250 yet but I might give it a try. I also might make a channel wad and see if Mario Kart will install it. I know you were looking for feedback on this so there you go.

The mario kart channel works without issue, if ios36 is patched. System ios does not need to be patched. But you need to patch the installer partition to load ios36 or ios250 as it loads ios33 by default. If ios33 is not patched then it can not load the fakesigned installer partition. So, if you want it to work, use ios patcher and patch to ios36 or 250 if you have cios. This method will fix any wii that ran TBR and patched ios36, but did not patch the system ios. Good for bannerbricks, corrupt system menus, and 003 errors on Korean wiis. Only requirement is ios36 must have the trucha bug.

As for your method, I don't understand how you would load a disc on a low level brick, i.e. no functional RM.
