I've tried patching the ISO to IOS36 and IOS250 and both don't work. I know the default for Mario Kart is IOS33 as it says when you carry it over to the ISO patcher and yes I do have trucha patched IOS36. Everything boots fine I can even play the game but when I install the channel, nothing happens. The screen goes black and that's about it. I ran system check each time to verify that the patched IOS isn't being installed. The console I'm testing on is a non bricked console with bootmii as boot2. Does the mario kart iso have to be trucha signed for this to work? I tried running it through trucha signer and it keeps giving an error for some reason.

As far as the motion plus fix. I'm not sure how it works but I've had at least 3 black screens that had no life at all and no patched IOS so I ran sandlot sluggers and watched the motion plus video and this got me back to the system menu somehow. If I were to reset the console from there I wouldn't be able to get back to the system menu. I'm assuming these were low-level bricks since it makes no sense for it to be a banner brick as the over sized banner would still be present causing a corrupt files message. And obviously makes no sense that it could be a full brick since running a motion plus video doesn't install the system menu or install a non stubbed system menu IOS.

I know for a fact it doesn't work on a banner brick since I made a bad wad on purpose and installed it. I then tried this fix and it didn't work. I also know that the consoles it did work on were just a black screen with no error message. A banner brick displays the system files are corrupt message. I'm not sure exactly what type of brick I recovered from those 3 times I just know that doing what I said with Sandlot Sluggers saved me from a black screen and I was able to recover each console 100%

Also, not sure how I would go about producing a low-level brick on purpose for testing but I would like to test it out more and I don't have any low-level bricks sitting around.

Corrupt boot1 or boot2 = Wii that wont power on at all, you wont be able to boot a game and the drive light will stay lit.

Thanks Bad I guess my issues weren't low-level bricks then. Possibly some kind of corrupt system menu? It's strange because the system menu would work fine after the motion plus video but just a black screen prior. Either way, I know the fix is useful. I just need to pin it down.

OK, I got Wii Sports Resort and watched the video. Then tried rebooting it.

    Still get the corrupt message.

I then tried to watch the video again, but when I load the game, it seems to now offer the video in sections versus one video like it did when it first loaded.

Is there a specific procedure for this way of unbricking? I'm getting into the game with a GameCube controller and holding down the d-pad.

I've been doing some testing on the fix and it doesn't seem to work on banner bricks which is what it sounds like you have. I think your best bet at this point is the Mario Kart fix however I've been testing it and it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe Mauifrog can give more info on how this is done but I've been through 5 discs testing it out and so far had no luck getting it to work with IOS36.

EDIT Okay I finally have the mario kart fix working!! This should work for you however the guide leaves out the part about trucha signing the partition which Wiiscrubber does not automatically do. Follow Mauifrog's instructions exactly however, after you replace the RevoKartNR.wad with IOS70 v6174.wad you need to trucha sign the partition. To trucha sign the partition just right click on Partition:2 - Installer and choose crypted partition save. Then click crypted partition load and reload the saved partition. Then proceed with patching the ISO to run on IOS36.

This should work for you and might be the only unbrick option you have at this point. The hard part is getting the Mario Kart iso on your computer. After doing this you will have a patched system menu IOS and you can then use the restore disks to recover.

When wiiscrubber replaces a file, AFAIK it fakesigns the partion. At least if works for me, and a few others in the 003 brick thread. If you take a file from an official iso, export the file, then import it, it will no longer boot without the trucha bug. I am not sure what your trouble is with the wiicrubber, but it really should have trucha signed that disk for you without any extra steps. But, yes it must be trucha signed, one way or the other. If I had time to learn it, WIT would be the way to go I think, more actively developed. Depending on what version of ios36 he had installed, it may have been updated when he installed 4.2. It is possible he had a current 4.2 version patched, it just depends on what guide he followed. So it is very possible that he has no patched ios installed which can be loaded by a game/disk swap method.

I guess wiiscrubber doesn't work the same for me as it does for you but it absolutely wasn't fakesigning the partition without those steps I listed. As far as the 4.2 update goes, I actually started with a softmodded 4.1 system menu that had a patched IOS36. I then upgraded to 4.2 by going to recovery mode and inserting a disk with 4.2 (Sandlot Sluggers) just as the OP described. This upgrade didn't make any changes to IOS36, IOS202, IOS250 and they were all still patched after the upgrade however it did get rid of cIOS249 and IOS60 patched. My best guess here is that so long as the OP had IOS36, IOS202 or IOS250 patched prior to the update, one or all should still be patched and this fix should work to patch the system menu IOS without issue. If IOS36 doesn't work then IOS202 or IOS250 should.

It depends on what version of TBR he used to patch ios36. If the version of ios36 was less than v3351, then it was updated. But it is worth a try, otherwise it is wii fit or ssdm.

@mauifrog - If the OP used Dop-Mii to restore truchabug then he's good to go. Otherwise installing cIOS249 with cIOS38 Installer rev.. should leave IOS250 untouched from the 4.2 update so the OP should be able to patch the partition to IOS250 or possibly even IOS202 if IOS36 fails.

@OP - Sorry my motion plus trick didn't work, hope this makes it up to you. Here's a video of the fix you need in action. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete. I purposely banner bricked my Wii so you can see it works. This is a brilliant fix by the way.

cios will not help if the system ios is not patched. Mario Kart Channel install works like this. Not patched system ios loads -> official Nintendo signed mariio kart game partition, running on ios 36 -> ios36 is patched, loads -> patched, fakesigned installer partion running on ios 36/250 -> patched wad installs -if ios36 is not patched, channel install will return to system menu / black screen / corrupt error -if installer partition is not run on trucha patched ios, and patched wad is fakesigned = blackscreen @ install Disk swap method works similar. Non patched system ios loads Nintendo signed game partition -> game partion loads/runs on patched ios36 (perhaps 38, 53, 55 if patched) -> disk swaped with patched game iso loading recovery apps, iso fakesigned @ game restart, patched ios36 (perhaps 38, 53, 55 if patched) reloads the game, loading the recovery app. Works with any game that reloads the health & safety screen and restart and will autoboot and runs on an ios that has been trucha patched. So for ios36, Castelvenia is the only choice for disk swap.

Depending on what guide he used will determine weather OP has the patched ios36 as many guides do not utilize dop-ios, such as our 3.1-4.1 guide on wiihacks, which installs a patched ios36-v3094, not v3351 unfortunately. So if that is the case, OP is sh!t out of luck and will not be able to use either method mentioned above.
