Black screen from preloader 0.29
Aloha all, hopefully you guys are capable of providing me with a bit of guidance on how to proceed with my current predicament.

Current situation:
Tried to install preloader 0.29 several months ago for some extra brick protection and ended up toasting my Wii as it froze on the "reboot in 5s" screen -Oh the irony!

- One blue flash of the DVD - which is odd since I KNOW I installed some manner of bootmii when I soft modded the thing, maybe IOS version? It's a relatively new wii so I doubt it was the boot2 type
- No menu when I turn on wii while holding down reset
- Capable of powering on with wiimote
I checked out the sticky on full bricks and I have a couple followup questions.
1. Even though I installed a version of bootmii once upon a time, because I currently don't have the two-flashes, I don't have the option of trying bootmii related recoveries, correct?
2. If bootmii is possible, how do I access the menu? MY SD card with the /bootmii folder does nothing while inserted and I definitely don't have a nand backup SD.
3. Reset + power doesn't work, so preloader didn't install properly and that's off the table, correct?
4. Regarding the savemiifii. I can go pick up a cheap gamecube controller for 14 bucks so it's a nonissue but say that I do get into system, what then? From my understanding, I need to have a mod-chip, is that correct? If a mod chip is not required, what would be my next step?
Cruising ebay shows a bunch of wii motherboards running only $44 which isn't too bad considering how much modchips cost and how ungodly expensive it is to mail it back to nintendo. Can one simply plug and chug in a new motherboad? If so, that certainly seems like the cheapest option... Unless there's some additional expense I'm not seeing.

Well, hopefully my post wasn't too incoherent or verbose. Thoughts, advice, and flames would be greatly appreciated.

1st, try to load preloader again. Hold the reset button, keep holding the reset button, push the power button while holding the reset button, keep holding the reset button. The freeze at reboot in 5s suggests it installed, unless it gave some other error prior. Hope it loads for you, because I don't have good news for you if it does not. If for whatever reason, preloader/priiloader fails to install propperly (rare, but happens), without boot2 bootmii the wii is fully bricked.
So assuming it does not load, sorry for your situation. You have two options to fix it. Option 1, replace the wii mainboard, be sure it is the wii mainboard and not the wii dvd motherboard. Very common the buy the wrong one, and the dvd board is cheaper. Last I look a wii mainboard cost about $90.
Your second option would be to have someone reprogram the nand, if you have a bootmii backup. This can only be done on newer wiis if you have a bootmii backup from that wii. Think bad-ad84, erikie, deadlyfoez, these people know how to programme a nand. So depending on where you live, both bad-ad84 and erikie are located in europe, deadlyfoez may be in the states, not sure. You could also do it yourself, if your up to the task.
Your third option would be to buy a new wii and sell the bricked wii with bootmi backup to someone interested in one, or sell it all for parts piece by piece.

Again, I hope preloader loads for you. I don't really think that savemiifrii will work for you, but having a cheap gc-controller is never a bad idea so you may as well give it a try.

Well, tried to invoke preloader again without much luck. I suppose these things happen and there's not much point in getting worked up over it, there's big ol' warnings in front of all these programs for a reason.

I found these on Ebay Used Nintendo Wii MainBoard Motherboard Tested 100% Wor - eBay (item 270624072283 end time Sep-17-10 16:04:40 PDT)

This superficially looks to be the part I need and the cost is certainly reasonable compared to picking up a used wii on craigslist or sending mine in for repair. Any tools I specificially need to rip my wii apart? I know the nintendo gear tends to need the tri-wing screws but does the wii?

Good to know. Looks like it's about time to start over from scratch and hopefully be a bit smarter on how I go about doing things. Thanks for the help

triwing is needed yes.
there good guides online, how to open it up the safe way, this for example.
