Question Weirdest Problems I've Seen...any Help?

Hey guys, I've been a lurker on the forum for quite some time now,but my cousins Wiis have both gone AWOL,and can't seem to find the solution in the guides or google (I know the power of google :-P ). Anyways here goes:

    The 1st one:
its modded with wiikey v1,and all the channels work fine but now when we put in a game it says,in the disc menu, "unable to read disc yadda yadda" (it doesnt turn off or tell me to turn it off). I assume its either a laser issue or something I can use some CO2 on and it.

The 2nd one...and this is the weird one:
the Wii is unmodded, its was won at a raffle, and when we opened it to play it turned on and the when we went to the mii channel there was a bunch of miis in it that had weird letters and symbols over them...and then the screen went black and said "an error has occurred, eject the disc, turn off the power etc.." except we didnt have a disc in it...so to combat the weird miis I formatted the wii..that got rid of them except its still the same issue, every channel we try to go into loads up for a few seconds then the black screen comes up. If I stay on the wii menu its fine, I can also browse through system settings. Now heres the second weird part...it wont take discs, I dont mean like it say "unable to read the disc" it physically wont take it, its like the loading mechanism doesnt work.(I mean the thing that pulls the disc in).

Any ideas? its not a different region model (I thought that when i saw the weird symbols) its US(CAN). Cant bring it back to the people that did the raffle. So just wondering if theres anyways to fix this if its a software issue...feel kind of dumb winning something only to send it to Nintendo to pay to have it fixed.

    Thanks Guys.

Moved to the bricked section of the site. Probably bad laser on the first; you can try cleaning the lens etc (air is better, non-abrasive). If you're the original owner and it's getting on in age and use, most likely culprit. The second one most def sounds like a form of a brick; how do you know it wasn't region-changed (like from Japan to US)?

Sounds like you have one broken dvd drive on the one from auction with the miis. The dvd drive will cause lots of trouble and the wii will not work right without it.
The other wii could have an issue with the lens or the disk or the wiikey, try to clean it.

Swap the drives between the wiis, see if the issue swaps as well.

My console did this when a bad disk was inserted. Are you certain there is no disk stuck in there. If so it won't take one and it will produce that disk read error everytime you try to go to a channel. Either way the wii console thinks there is a disk in it and it cannot read it.

The first console sounds sounds like the modchip has stopped working or like you said the laser needs cleaning.

The first one yea we've owned it since day one,so I figured its just wear and tear.
As fot the second, I looked at the serial code...it had a US serial, plus when we won it,it was unopened. if it is a form of bricking is there a fix to it?
didnt know where to post as there was two issue,I was unaware if it was a bricking issue, but the second one is the most worrysome.

Thank you for the quick response.

Could be a disk stuck in there and the eject button isn't working. I found a homebrew app to eject it, but I don't know if it will help since everything is erroring on you before you get a chance to do anything. Again this is the same behavior I experienced from it.

To the best of my knowledge there isnt a disc in it..when i hit eject button nothing comes out....
if i try and put another disc in it doesnt feel like there is another disc in it..i can still push another disc in it just doesnt get pulled in and therefore as soon as my fingers cant touch it, it stays in place...

is there anyway to see into the drive? the stupid felt thing is blocking my vision...i'd have to open it wouldn't I?

Man, I seen somewhere it shows the place to manually eject a disk, but I don't remeber where. you would have to take it apart, but I think the front cover is enough. Just seems like the console thinks there is a disk inserted for some reason. I had to hurry up and load homebrewchannel and load the app to eject the disk before it could error because my eject button is broken. I will post links if I can find them.

Think I know what you're talking about. One of Shadow's threads I think.... Found it.
