Bricked Wii New System Menu 4.3 Beware!!!!

All I know is I was trying to repair a bricked Wii which I made great progress on. I received the Wii bricked and couldn't access the settings menu or get it to read an SD card from the slot. After days of work, I was finally able to get into the settings menu and setup a wireless connection. I got overly excited on this advancement and figured I would try to do a system menu update to repair the system menu. This was a huge mistake. Much to my surprise I received a 4.3 update which I wasn't even aware was out yet. Although this fixed my bricked Wii and everything seemed to be working great, I then did the worst thing possible. I attempted to install homebrew channel and this is why I'm posting. What ever you do, do not attempt to install homebrew on 4.3!!!!!! The results from trying to do so are horrifying.

Upon attempting to install from the SD slot I noticed bannerbomb didn't show up on the screen at all. The screen then froze and my wiimote lights went out. I restarted the system and on the first boot up I was able to get to the main menu but the wiimote froze again after about 1 second. I rebooted again and this time nothing but a black screen and I can't even get recovery mode to come up. This is currently where I stand. I have a black screen with no signs of life what-so-ever.

This is a warning to not even attempt installing Homebrew with system menu 4.3. You don't even have to install anything to become fully bricked, just simply attempting to load bannerbomb can brick you. I'll post back with any advancements (if any).

Yes it is but I'll take it as a loss if I have to or I'll just part it out. I have actually made some progress so far. I'm now able to get the recovery menu to come up showing the 4.3 USA and I can get the system menu to boot but I have a locked up wiimote that keeps shaking and doesn't show up on the screen. I don't think I have a chance at fixing it unless I can somehow go back to 4.2 or 4.1 which seems impossible to do at this point. Mauifrog put up a nice guide to downgrade but it's not going to happen on this Wii. I think someone has to come up with an alternate bannerbomb for 4.3 and then I might have a chance. Well anyway, this would be the first one I couldn't repair out of a few dozen so I'm not going to cry about it.

Nope. I got life back in it. I'm going to try the Lego Indiana Jones hack to downgrade to 4.1 and then I should be in good shape. I'm at the point where I can actually navigate the settings menu again. I'm learning more about 4.3 as I go and I think I've got a lot of it figured out. I also think I'm dealing with a corrupt IOS which wasn't repaired during the upgrade.

That's a rather horrifying story. Does the Wii ever automatically do systems updates? If so, what can be done to prevent system updates or does having priiloader installed prevent this? I just want to make sure I am covered.

You just have to have the hacks.ini file for priiloader then you have to enable the options to block online and disc updates. You can find the hacks.ini here

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you all know that I won the battle!! I was able autoboot Lego Indiana Jones with DriveKey installed and then use the Indiana Pawns exploit to follow Mauifrog's 4.3 virgin softmod guide. It worked great except for when I had to load IOS236 by pressing the home button. For some reason this didn't work but I navigated back to the main menu of Multi_Mod Manager and there is an option to load a different IOS and that worked without any problems.

I also downgraded to system menu 4.1 however, I was having problems connecting to the internet and Dop-Mii wouldn't load from Homebrew for some reason. I don't know if this was due to 4.3 or not but Dop-Mii would freeze and I lost my remote at the main screen every time I tried to load it. I used wad manager 1.6 to replace IOS70, IOS60 and to install system menu 4.1. Everything now works perfectly and it is completely unbricked!
