That really doesn't answer my question. What was wrong with your Wii to begin with? Did it have a black screen before you started?

yeah daughter did an update a while back from 3.2u to 4.1 i guess. when i went to turn it on bootmii would come up and i was able to get into the hbc but couldnt do anything cause the controllers would not sync. but when i went to system menu all it did was go to a black screen.

Sounds like the formatter completed because you're able to access recovery mode. I'm guessing you are either jumping the gun (after using the nand formatter it will take almost 30 seconds for the Wii to boot to the initial setup) or you somehow messed up your settings.txt.

Try powering on the Wii and give it a good 30 seconds to a minute to load up.

Based on your last post, your issue may be a bad bluetooth module.

If you mean that your Wii would boot into Bootmii at power up then you have Bootmii as Boot2. Also, it sounds more like a hardware problem rather than a software problem. Maybe a bad bluetooth module. Could you power the Wii on with the Wii motes before you started?

Your issue is likely a bad Bluetooth module. This will cause a black screen and the system menu to not load. Based on the information you provided, you will have to check to make sure your BT module is seated properly or replace it with a working one. Nothing else can be done at this point until you do that.

i thought you could only sync your controllers at the "press a" screen and the "wii menu"?

That is true but if the above was an answer to my question in post #242 referring to a black screen to begin with then you most likely have a bad BT. After following this guide you should have everything you need to boot. You can get into the recovery menu and that proves you have a functioning system menu and system IOS but if you BT is bad, it will refuse to run them leaving you with a black screen.
