How were you able to determine that?
Is it something I can fix?
Can I do anything to bring the wii back to a setting that I would be able to send it out to nintendo? (removing any indication of softmoding)

Well at first I just wanted to restore the NAND and then start fresh; hoping that would let the formatting process complete. I now understand that the formatting just goes over the NAND to It wouldn't make a difference.
I still would like to know if there is a way I can remove an identity of softmoding so I can ship this back to nintendo for repair. Or is this something I could fix myself?

    Well that really stinks.

This is a quote from the guide.

You should really only attempt this if you have bootmii installed as boot2. You CAN use this guide if you have bootmii as an IOS, but if anything goes wrong you won't be able to recover your Wii without a NAND programmer (or sending it to someone with one).

Well, not yet. I just noticed that you can get into the recovery menu and that is a good thing. Why you decided to follow this guide to begin with?
