Black Screen of Death Help - Tried 5 things..Can you help me?

So here are the facts:

- I got a wii given to me from a friend.
- He had homebrew and some other software mods on it and it worked perfect.
- He accidently updatd the system to I believe 4.1 on 12/09 and bamn Black Screen.
- This unit has been blacked screen ever since.
- The unit powers on from red to green but nothing on screen whatsoever.

(He gives me the unit and says you can have it I bought another) Bad part about this whole adventure is he had no backup of anything and some dude he doesn't see anymore did the software mods. So I take it this thing is a Full Brick.

Now that I have it here is what I have tried to get this thing up.

- I hooked up a N64 controller and did the port4 all buttons down boot but got nothing.
- I bought a bluetooth module and installed a new one and still get black screen.
- I have tried to download some software to SD and booth from that and get nothing.

So I am still a rookie but a fast learner. I have read and read over the forums and now just need help and guidance.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do with this machine? Seems theres got to be a way to get this thing going without spending arm and a leg for a bunch of mods.

Sadly, I think you are correct, you have a full brick. I have heard of some sort of chip that can be placed inside the wii and will flash the NAND and fix it, but I have also heard these chips are very hard to come by and only professional modders have them, which means you would probably have to go way out of your way to find some one with this chip, and it probably wouldn't be the cheapest thing in the world for you to do. Oh, good thing is I think I just remembered the name of this chip, I believe it was called an Infectous chip(Or something like that, I know it has the word "Infect" in it) Hope I helped, and good luck to you

When you did the GC controller trick (savemiifrii) did you dismantle the controller before doing so? if not then take the controller apart ( take the main faceplate off) and under the d-pad there will be a pin that you must remove first so that you can press all four directions at once. With the wii opwered off, plug this into port 4 then press and hold all 4 directions at once and it should bring you to a screen with a version number at the bottom when you power it back on.

Yes Tek I have a generic Gamestop controller that I took apart so I am able to press the up down left right buttons at the same time.

Unfortunetly I still get nothing but Black Screen. :(

Well another option is to try holding the - & + buttnos and rapidly pressing A while you power on, i've read this will also get you to the same screen but have not tried it myself... it's worth a shot.

Also, as cheese said, an infectus chip will reprogram your NAND and fix your wii but they are decently rare to come by because as far as im aware they're no longer being manufactured.

You can find an infectus modchip fairly easily off the internet.

Infectus mod chips are harder to get than they were and their forums are shut. I have one available to sell if someone wanted it.

Anyway, it sounds like it could be bricked while updated boot2.

I could reflash the nand for you, but without a nandbackup it would only help if the console allowed bootmii as boot2 (even if its not currently installed). do you have the wii taken apart? if so, get the date code off the hollywood chip.

if not, could you PM me the serial number (can guess based on serial if bootmii is installable as boot2).


but with how you have described it, nand reprogram sounds like your only option.

according to wiidrives.com, that should have a d2b in it. which should put it at being old enough for reflashing.
