Remove you sd-card and disk, boot the wii. Do you see 1 or 2 flashes from the blue dvd drive light.

OK, that is good- sounds like boot2 bootmii. You don't need to burn any disks and try to boot anything from the recovery menu, no need to use savemiifrii. You can fix this 100% using bootmii. Now what was the trouble with the guide I linked you to?

OK tried everything and every file in the guide but the problem is still there the screen of death won't go away. booohoooohooo. tried and tried but i can't get bootmii to load. again when i turn on the wii it flashes and then it flashes twice quickly. I think there is no hope for me. May be I WILL HAVE TO BUY a modchip to autoboot a recovery disk. sad

What kind of sd-card are you using? Format your sd-card with this tool.
    Extract-
    bootmii folder-PAL.rar
    or
    bootmii_folder-NTSC.zip
    to sd:\
Boot your wii, bootmii should start

Try another sd-card, what kind of card are you using now (mauifrog asks same questiion again)

Before you even consider buying a modchip, you need to test savemiifrii and see if you have a functional recovery menu. Also you need to know if you patched your system ios with the trucha bug- if you did not you can not boot any recovery disks.
