    Smile Bricked - But I'm not going to bother wasting my time describing how I'm bricked.

    Hiya all, i bricked my wii when i attempted to upgrade my shopping channel using this

    WiiSCU v0.21
    Copyright (c) 2009 Wack0
    Portions copyright (c) 2008 tona
    Portions copyright (c) 2008 bushing
    PatchMii net_init() retry code copyright (c) 2009 kerframil
    Modified by illinialex24

    WiiSCU uses PatchMii to update the following to their latest versions:

    IOS16
    IOS38
    IOS60
    IOS61
    News Channel
    Weather Channel
    Mii Channel
    Photo Channel
    Shop Channel

    This is my first release.
    I didn't really know much C# (I know a bit more now), so I
    modified IOS51+shop.
    (Well, I modified IOS61+shop, but that was based upon IOS51+shop)
    So most of the work was done by tona and bushing.
    But everyone has to start somewhere

    There is a menu-driven interface starting from 0.2, using code from
    AnyRegion Changer (tona, you're a life saver !).
    +Trucha means 'with the trucha bug'. -Trucha means 'without the trucha
    bug' .. but you could figure it out !!

    IOS51 support has been removed since 0.21 as, well, who would want an
    old shopchannel IOS using up valuable nand space ?

    Photo Channel 1.0 support has also been removed since 0.21, as 1.1 is
    the only version that recieves updates.

    Version history and changelog
    `````````````````````````````
    v0.22~ Fixed the IOS60 stub issue for people who have Wii System Menu 4.1 and below
    v0.21~ Added code for debug purposes.
    ~ No more 'epic fail' -- now it shows what patchmii returns.
    ~ IOS51 and Photo Channel 1.0 support removed.
    ~ Added an option to exit to the Homebrew Channel.
    ~ News/weather channel now installs HAFx/HAGx as well as
    HAFA/HAGA (using gamedisc region).
    ~ Added sysconf.c to determine region to install news/weather
    channels.
    ~ Tidied up code a bit.
    v0.2 ~ patchmii_network_init() now retries a few times if it fails.
    ~ Menu-driven interface integrated into code, installer.c re-written
    completely because of this.
    ~ Photo Channel 1.0 is now supported. There's been no requests for it,
    but I decided to put it in to make the updater "complete".
    ~ New icon by Antiaverage included.
    ..and that's about it !
    v0.1 ~ First version, nothing else to say except it had a really irksome
    interface. For IOS51+Shop it was fine, but for an updater that had
    options for 10 titles it would get annoying ..
    After doing some research it appears preloader may be able to help me. I have version 0.29 installed. My question is what do i install/ uninstall next. A word in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Sincere apologies for the complete lack of info.
    I'm on a soft modded wii, PAL 4.1e system menu using neo-gamma 8 rev14.
    I wanted to get onto the shopping channel but it kept prompting me to update through nintendo. So i decided to try update it manually. After doing some searching i found wiiscu which was supposed to update the shopping channel amoungst other things. The update did seem to take for ages so i left it running while i went on the school run. Anyway..... when i returned it had finished and everything appeared ok.
    When i tried to reboot to system menu i get a black screen with an unreadable message on.
    I can get preloader to run but i dont know what to do once in the priloader menu.
    Bit difficult to tell you what to next, for the following reason..
    You haven't told us what's wrong.
    Pasting a readme of WiiSCU could mean loads of things could be wrong.
    Try starting again but this time look at it from our point of view.
    Hmm the message couldn't possibly be 'The system files are corrupted' or something like that would it?
    If you've still got Preloader then it's clear that the update was not successful, otherwise it'd be uninstalled.
    Does Preloader state an IOS and System Menu on it?
    So your Preloader still thinks 4.1 is installed and I'm inclined to agree with it.
    What it sounds like you have is a Preloader brick for some strange reason.
    Re-installing IOS60patched and System Menu v450 should cure that issue.
    And to get Shopping channel just use NUSD and install the channel available there along with IOS61, there's a guide on Wiihacks.
    Tried to reinstall IOS60 patched using wad manager 1.5, but keep getting a retention ERROR. Should i try reinstalling system menu v450 first ?
    Retention error?
    Do you mean RET = -1035 or -2011 or something?
    And no, I don't think you should try v450 first.
