    Wii froze installing Preloader 0.29, any suggestions?

    Hello. I was following the guidelines posted in the "COMPLETE Guide of Soft Modding your Wii for Backup Launching", I was upgrading from a 3.2U stock to 4.0. I had no problem with anything, installing the HBC, updating to the hacked 4.0 firmware, the IOS60 install.

    When I went to install Preloader 0.29 , I encountered the "install done, loading preloader... waiting 5s ... " freezeup. When this occurred, I searched around and found a post on the wiki page about letting it finish for 30 seconds then reboot etc
    (Talk:Preloader - WiiBrew...).
    I also found an older forum post here with no responses about this specific problem.

    I decided to shut down my Wii (It had been about 15 minutes total frozen on the install done, loading preloader... waiting 5s ... screen). Lo and behold, upon booting I now have the black screen of death. I've tried to boot into Preloader, no go. I've tried the, take apart your GC controller and hold down all 4 directional buttons, to no avail(I used one of the gamestop type GC controllers, will this still work?). I have also removed the Wii's battery overnight just in case.

    This is an original launch Wii so I assume I could get an Infectous modchip, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

    If it hangs on this message it's probably fine.

    * Wait 30 seconds to make sure it's finished.
    * Hold the Wii power button for 5 seconds to turn off you Wii
    * Hold down reset
    * Turn on Wii (keep holding reset)
    * Preloader should start
    * Go to settings
    * Change the IOS to 30 or 60 (IOS30 for Wii System 3.2x, and IOS60 for Wii System 4.0x)
    * Save
    * Restart, all should be fixed

    I believe this happens when you had 3.2, installed preloader, upgraded to 4.0, installed preloader again. Preloader remembers that it used to use IOS30 and tries to use that, but it needs IOS60 to boot v4.0-

    Did you install the patched IOS60?

    Yes. Here is what I did:

    I had 3.2U, I used the Twilight Hack to install the HBC.
    Once I did that, I installed cIOS36 rev 09, no problems
    Next: I upgraded to 4.0 via "Firmware Updater 4.0", no problem there
    Next: I patched cIOS60, I used the "IOS60 Installer" with the following steps:
    Say NO to install IOS61 (press B)
    Say YES to install IOS60 (press A)
    Say YES to patch IOS60 (press A)
    Say NO to install the Shop Channel (press B)
    All was well there.

    I then went to install "Preloader 0.29 Installer". I did 1 after the disclaimer and recieved the "install done, loading preloader... waiting 5s ... " freezeup. I waited approx 15 minutes before I powered down my Wii, (as it said to from the wiki page, same one I linked, and that you quoted). I tried to enter the preloader, but nothing. Holding down reset while powering up did zip.

    Try to unplug usb, sd, gc port devices. The hold reset and power on the wii.

    I don't see any mention of bootmii. Did you install this?

    No USB attachments, I've pulled the SD card and the wiibar.
    As I mentioned, for the GC controller savemywii attempt, does it need to be a true GC controller, or will the Gamestop knock off ones work?

    I didn't install Bootmii, I had HBC installed (Previously done back for 3.2 when it was current), and since I stopped fiddling around with it, I followed the guide which said to skip ahead to install cIOS36 (To update to 4.0) since a lot has changed since simple Wad manager 1.21 and modifying backups manually

    *SKIP THIS IF YOU HAVE HOMEBREW CHANNEL INSTALLED!*
    (Installing HBC goes here using the "Bannerbomb" method)
    IF you have a wii with 4.0 or newer go to “PREINSTALL”...................Page 8
    IF you have a wii with 3.2 or older go to “INSTALL”............................Page 9

    Since I have a launch model Wii, I suppose my only choice now is to install the infectus chip correct?

    Sound like the right idea to me.
