    That's what I had done.

I held down the GC buttons, got to the 4.1 screen, then popped in the DVD. No go.

Is there a way to test the DriveKey without disks involved? Like access a config screen or something? I just want to make sure I put the chip in correctly.

Sorry, don't know what else to say. Your dvd drive does support dvd-/+r backups.

Thats not what I mean. Some new wii have dvd drives that will not read backup disks. Your wii can read backup disk, right.

I dont know. I haven't been using backup disks - just USB loader.

Is trying to find the Universal Unbrick Disk V4 worth a try? Then again, if the drive in my Wii wont read backup disks, the point may be moot.

    What do you think?

There are many custom disks HERE. But I doubt you will have any change of luck with those. Don't give up, but it really seams as though your wii can not read dvds. If you can't get it to boot games, then you may need to replace the drive with an older one or borrow a drive or send the wii to someone with a drive that will help you. You should be able to have a good look an the dvd drive and the chip #'s to determine what kind you have if you open it up. Also you chip may have some led lights on it that will let you know if it is working properly or not, not sure about your chip but my wasabi has an led or two.
