Fully Bricked Wii -System Menu Won't Load

Hi my friend bought a Wii that came with 4.1k and we were experimenting around with the Wii. We were able to remove the suggested stubs and successfully install HBC on it. My friend wanted to change the region on it to US so we followed one of the tutorials on the other forums to change regions, but we failed after downgrading the firmware to 3.3 and now we're stuck with a completely bricked wii.

The symptoms of the wii now-
    *Green LED turns on
*Attempts to read whatever disc in the wii
    *Black screen remains throughout
(My friend told me he had Bootmii installed, but it's not working so I'm guessing he forgot to actually install it after putting it into the SD card)

I've seen multiple posts having people have their wiis show the health info and remain at black screen, but I haven't found many solutions for my situation. We attempted to boot to rescue menu using a 3rd party gc controller (the guy we talked to told us that he was able to get in using the particular controller), but nothing works (although I can hear minor beeps from the wii itself when I press down on the controller at the beginning).

So I have come to a conclusion that we only have 2 options to solve this:
    1. return it to Nintendo
    2. recover it using mod chips

Can anybody confirm these options or suggest any better ones?

From your description, there is nothing you can do for the wii. If the gc controller did not work with savemiifrii a modchip will not help. How did you downgrade to 3.3? Was it 3.3K or 3.3u, did you install ios40 or ios30 first?

Either way, if you can send it back to Nintendo, that is the best option. Also, don't feel bad about bootmii, korean wii's don't support the boot2 install so it would not help, neither would preloader.

If you do get a new one, post here and I can help you region change it.

If you boot the wii and see the health and safty screen, then it goes to black, this can be fixed with a modchip- preconfigured to autoboot. It also means that you are doing savemiifrii wrong.

Could it be that it's because I'm using a 3rd party controller for savemiifrii it's not working?

The state of my brick is that not even the health notice shows up. We followed this tutorial to region change and downgrade to 3.3U.

Well that guide is almost a year old, and it did not take korean wii's into account.

If you are booting straight to a black screen and savemiifrii fails, that is bad and there is nothing you can do. A third party gc-controller typically does savemiifrii better than an original one from Nintendo.

At what point in that guide did your wii brick? Was the wii online?

As I said, Korean wii's are different, I am going to assume you installed system menu with out the required ios file.

So I guess it's safe to assume that I bricked the Wii so well that Nintendo will have to take a really close look to find out what actually happened so I can just play dumb and get a new wii from them?

Wouldn't this be one of those <3.4 region change Bricks? Some Wiis are hardcoded to prevent downgrading below 3.4, maybe the Korean Wiis are the same.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Well, on the flip side I got a new wii from nintendo free of charge. They determined that it was a graphical issue the screen isn't loading up and gave me a new one with 3.3k on it.
I successfully soft-modded it and playing games on it so everything's fine now. Except one minor problem; I can't play any Korean region games through Neogamma r8 even though it's a Korean wii...

I have the full description of the problem here

Is it still 3.3k? Make a nand backup with bootmii?
