    Newbie Partially Bricked Wii..! Yikes!

    Hi Folks,
I have a situation that seems to be similar to others covered here in these great forums.. A partially bricked Wii. I only discovered it because I was researching booting USB drive and running ISO's from an HD. But I digresss..

My Wii is over 2 years old NTSC (US) and has a Wiinja Deluxe chip installed. No Issues. I had the Homebrew Channel installed from earlier (Year ago or more) experimentation... So today I try to fire up the Homebrew Channel and get "INVALID WII Application" error. I tried a few more similar Home Brew programs and get the same Error. I then go to the settings and Get the OPERA ERROR. (No Settings...just the opera error).
My Kids just got My Sims AGENTS and WII Sports Resort for Christmas.. But they state they didnt do any updates.. (Um..11 and 6 yoa..so take that with a grain of salt)... The games all seem to work fine. I have no idea how long I have had this issue..so I am not sure what system menu I am sitting at...
I see some of the Bootable IMAGE disks out there to fix out of region update problems... but I don't think that's the case here... Plus it's scary...don't want to SUPER BRICK the thing..

ANy Tips or suggestions would be appreciated..
    Thanks

At one time, someone updated your wii from a disk that was not in your region. This update killed your settings and your outdated HBC.
Should be a simple fix. Just run nsmb ntsc, original or backup, with update partition, and run the disk update.
When your done, reinstall HBC to fix that issue, yours sounds old and the update must have killed it. HBC installation is described in step 1 of the 3.1-4.1 softmodguide linked below. Be sure to install bootmii as boot2.

Also other options to fix this issue are described here-
Semi-Brick, system settings locked, Opera error.

The game should be easy to find. I am sure there are other games with the 4.1 update, but I don't know of any.

Ok..Update... I did the Mario deal and it did Update my System menu and I can get into the Settings now.. Looks like my desktop version is 4.1U ..and the Mario disk still says system update. I do see the SD Card Icon at the bottom of the screen.
Should I avoid all other Updates at this point?

Thanks for the Fix and the info..

You should avoid update form now. Block them with preloader.

good stuff..Thanks for the quick reply... Not to go off topic but do the Guides all assume a NON MODDED (HARD MOD) wii...and what implications are there to doing any of the soft stuff with a chip installed? (Bad or good..)..

    Thanks Again..

Your chip will not interfere with a softmod. Follow the 3.1-4.1 guide linked below if you like. If will have you install preloader, and afterwords you'll be able to load games from usb, which is a bit more convenient.
