From what I've said is it highly possible the last option will work? Before I go out looking for a CG controller.
I don't know, but a gc-controller cost about $7 on ebay. Also if you had bootmii, then there is not reason to use the recovery menu.

2- no, there is no way to install preloader first. If it fails, you have no preloader

3- most of your issues are probably related to you corrupted system menu. Using iso249 is a band aid of sorts. Things should not get worse unless you install or uninstall other stuff. You will probably find other random errors with HB apps.
Thanks for the help so far. What would be the effect if I just reinstalled preloader while skipping the ios/system menu reinstall?

If the problem is that my new ios60 is not patched (with whatever preloader .29 patched it with in the first place), and the preloader installer could do that for me, could this work? Or am I misunderstanding the problem?

Also, can preloader reinstall over itself, without having to uninstall?

And can .29 (which patches ios60) be installed over .30?

I don't know what will happen. Yes, preloader can reinstall over itself. If the install does not fail you will either fix your issue or be stuck with the same trouble. If the install fails you'll be without preloader and a system menu.

Wait a minute. If just patching ios60 could potentially fix my problem, could you tell me of another way to patch ios60 the same way without having to reinstall preloader?

    To clarify:

Surely there must be another program besides preloader that can apply the exact same patch. Using it instead of reinstalling preloader would remove the risk for me. Do you know of such a program?

Edit: looks like I need the ES_Identify patch. The ios60 I installed from wad manager already has the trucha bug I believe.

Ok I think I know what I did, I installed priiloader before uninstalling it, basically installing over the old which gave me the error and dump on screen and becoming completely unresponsive forcing me to hold the power button to reboot the wii, is this recoverable with savemiifrii?

Ok I went and bought a CG controller from the store cost me 130 kroner ($20 or so), savemefrii didn't work, screen just lights up but black and then gradually dims to a dull black over a 5 seconds, how the hell did this even happen, I followed the guide perfectly, all I did was install priiloader again over already existing priiloader which is apparently fine to do... After that it broke.

    @w1z8it
Sorry for your luck. The installation of preloader/priiloader can pose some risk as it make a small modification to the system menu. If all goes well then it is very useful. If the install fails, then it can be very bad. Thinks would have worked out better for you, if you had read this or posted for help be for attempting the uninstall and reinstall.

Read through w1z8it's posts. It may give you an idea of what can happen when using alternate techniques.

I went out and bought a new wii today, it's menu version 3.3, should I update to 4.2 and try again or mod it as 3.3? or any other? On another note sorry if this is the wrong topic you can split it if you wish, if I call up the store I just bought the wii from and tell them it doesn't load up, what are the chances of them replacing it if I just box the old one with the new stuff? It wasn't bought in a console store but a large eletrical goods store, the old bricked wii is brand new also, was opened at christmas.

    Cheers.

You should follow the 3.1-4.1 guide to softmod the new wii. That will update you to 4.1

The box also has the Serial Number of the wii, so they can check it at the store. You could call Nintendo and tell them the screen went black during an online update. Assuming savemiifrii does not work.

Cool I'll try me luck with Nintendo then.

One thing I'm confused about in that guide you speak of, I have gotten to the part where it warns of patching ISO60 before updating or you'll brick the wii, bit it doesn't actually explain how to, I have no idea how to properly use WAD manager especially as it says to use ISO249 which doesn't appear to exist on my wii, it jumps from ISO37 straight to ISO 254...

Part 3 installs cios38-r14, this is ios249. After that you can use ios249 with wadmanager to install wads. You install ios60patched.wad with wadmanager using ios249. Then you run the 4.1 updater, then install preloader.
