OH SH*T: Black Screen of WII!!!
OK, so you've done something wrong and now you have a black screen at boot.
Please read this and try the suggestions before posting for any help in the forum.
What can you do?
Well you really only have 3 options to fix this wii. They are bootmii, preloader, and recovery menu, and are described in detail below.
Option #1 Bootmii Boot2
You where both lucky and wise and were able to install bootmii as boot2. If you have boot2 bootmii you can recover from any code related brick. Bootmii boot2 produces two flashes from the blue led drive light at boot with disk removed. And when you place the bootmii files onto your compatible sd-card, bootmii will load. Also when a cboot2 app is places onto your compatible sd-card, the app will load. This allows you to backup and restore your nand, and/or run a variety of apps to fix your wii.
If you lost your bootmii folder, try these:
bootmii folder-E.rar
bootmii_folder-U.zip
Options #2 Preloader/Priiloader
If you have a functional preloader/priiloader you can fix almost any code based brick. To start preloader, hold reset and boot the wii while holding reset. Preloader would start if it was functional. If it fails you should remove your sd-card, and unplug any usb devises, then try again. Preloader will allow you to run a variety of apps to fix your wii. If you bricked you wii while installing a new system menu, preloader was likely removed and you can not use it.
Option #3 Recovery Menu via savemii or savemiifrii
If you have a black screen, you may be able to start the wii's recovery menu by using savemii or savemiifrii. If the recovery menu loads, it may be possible to execute applications using autoboot disks, with a preconfigured autobooting modchip.
If you buy a modchip, make sure it is preconfigured by the seller to autoboot and region free, without any update blocks enabled.
To try savemiifrii, you will need a gc-controller in port #4. Orginal controllers from nintendo require modification of the dpad for this to work. For this reason, cheap generic controllers are usually better. Hold all four directions of the dpad down at the same time. Continue to hold them down and boot the wii while holding. If it works you will see a blackscreen with you system menu displayed in the lower right corner.
Also have a look at this Brick flowchart from savemii. It can help identify your brick-type, and course of action.
Wii Brick Flowchart
If the above 3 options fail, then your wii is fully bricked, without a softmod based solution. Sorry, you're probably out of luck.
You can proceed with one of the 6 suggestions below, for a fully bricked broken door stop of a wii.
1- you could replace the wii's mainboard with a functional unbricked one, if you can find it.
2- you could solder a nand programer onto the nand chip, using about 15 solder points. Then you can reprogram the nand with a functional nand dump for your wii. Or user with compatible wii's can flash only boot2 bootmii, and recover from there

3- You could send it to Nintendo. A sob story may help.
"Please help, my son updated online and now the wii has only a black screen. I don't understand what happened, what can I do, please help me fix this, the damn kid is crying." Works even better if you can get your kids crying in the background.
4- You could sell it on ebay for about 30-60 dollars, to going rate for brocken wii's, plus 10-15 dollars for shipping.
5- You could part it out in pieces ebay for more $.
6- You could throw it against the wall until you feel better.
My personal favorite.
