Semi-Brick, system settings locked, Opera error.
FIX: Semi-Bricked wii from out of region system menu
A semi brick is caused by installing a system menu that is not of the region as the wii. This results in an Opera error, or similar when entering the wii settings. This can be fixed by installing the correct system menu for your wii.
Method #1-
Update your wii via disc update to a higher system menu version number. Simply put an in region disc with a system update higher than that currently installed, let the wii update and your issue will be fixed. If your wii channel menu does not have an sd icon, your wii is <4.x. If you have an sd icon your wii is >4.x. You can use a gc-controller and savemiifrii to determine the install system menu version.
Note: in some situation a wii may be semi-bricked at boot, and the system menu does not load. This is caused when a semi-bricked wii is somehow formatted, possible from a region select disc update, or other means. These wiis that boot to a semi brick can also be fixed by updating the wii from an in region disc update via savemiifrii.
Make sure you update from the proper region disc.
Method #2- Softmod fix
This method is the most convenient and would be appropriate for all wiis. It will install a cios to your wii which will allow you to reinstall your proper system menu. This will take all wiis to system menu 4.1, which is the most desirable version (except KOR it is 4.2). In addition it will allow your to install priiloader, which will prevent this issue in the future.
If you have bootmii installed, you can skip step 1 and step 2 if you wish.
If you have a bootmii nand backup, you can skip step 3 if you wish.
If you do not install HBC, use the some exploit in step 1 to launch step 4.
Backup and format your sd card
Have 350 free blocks of nand space
Remove all GC controllers and GC memory cards
Don't lose power
Step 1- Launch the hackmii installer
Bootmii ios will be used to install cios236, this will allow you to reinstall to proper system menu. You can optionally install the HBC, and make a nand backup. There are several methods depending on your system menu, bannerbomb is the simplest. Also, if you choose not to install HBC you will use this exploit again in step 4.
Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed
If you already have a softmod with HBC installed, you can update your softmod with this guide.
Backup and Format your sd-card
Extract MMM-58-61.zip to sd:\
Load the HomeBrew Channel
Launch Multi-Mod Manager -MMM will load
-Select Wad Manager -Press A
-Press 1, Install all wads
-IOS58 and IOS61 will install

-Pick a game that runs on a cios installed by cioscorp/darkcorp
-Rip/get a 1:1 iso of this game to your pc
-Example "Castlevania Judgment" which runs on ios36
Extract iso-tools.zip to the location of your game iso
-Extract MMM-58-61-Hackmii_0.8_BB2.zip,[/SIZE]
, to sd:\
-copy sd:\apps\mmm\boot.dol to the location of your game iso
-Run MakeKeyBin.exe, type 42, click generate and exit
-Run WIIScrubber.exe
Click load ISO, select your game iso
Double click Partition 1- data
Right click on main.dol,
Click replace
Select boot.dol
main.dol name will not change
Exit
-Burn the patched game iso, burn it good and proper
You may be able to load this from the disc channel if you have a current version of darkcorp installed- try
If the patched game iso does not load, do the following-
Load your retail game from the disc channel
Once the game loads press [HOME] on the wiimote
Press eject and remove the retail game, insert the patched game disc
Press restart

There is no exploit for 4.3k, but give this a read.

Step 2- Install bootmii, and HBC if you like
Read the Scam warning and press 1
It may take a minute or two for the "press 1" to appear- be patient
Install the HomeBrew Channel (optional but it is nice)
Install Bootmii as Boot2(boot2 may not be available, IOS installs automatically)
Prepare the SD-card
If Step1 fails with error "no vulnerable ios", DO THIS
Step 3- Make A NAND Backup (NOT Optional, do this,)Load HBC, press -HOME-, launch Bootmii
If you did not install HBC, delete sd:\boot.elf/dol, extract bootmii-booter.zip to sd:\, then run your exploit again- bootmii will load
Make a nand backup
Press Power, Power, Power, Reset, Reset (or use gc-controller)
Power = Right, Eject = Left, Reset = Select
Once the backup is complete, exit bootmii to HBC
Backup your Bootmii files to your PC
sd:\bootmii
sd:\nand.bin
sd:\key.bin
*DO NOT LOSE THESE FILES*
If you want to load bootmii again at a later date, copy the bootmii folder back to sd:\
Step 4 Install cios and your system menu
Backup and format your sd card
Have 350 free blocks of nand space
Remove all GC controllers and GC memory cards
Don't lose power
Download MMM-System_Menus.zip (this file is large, sorry)
Extract to sd:\
Run sd:\md5summer.exe -from you pc
Click "Verify Sums", Select "MMM-System_Menus.md5"
All check sums should verify without error (very important)
If you did not install HBC, run your exploit again, just like step 1
4.2 bannerbomb v2 users- delete sd:\private, rename sd:\bannerbomb-v2 -> sd:\private
Launch the HBC, click [HOME], Launch Bootmii
Multi-Mod Manager should load, it should be running on ios36-v16 or ios236
Click on Wad Manager
Press 1, install all wads -press A
11 wads should install without error. DO NOT PROCEED WITH ERROR
Then select the folder for your region, USA, EURO, JAP, or KOR
Don't install the wrong one
Press 1, Install all wads -press A
3 wads should install without error -Don't Proceed with error
Now press 2 and load the mmm App Manager
Part 5- Install Priiloader (brick protection, you should have this)
You should now be at the App Manager in MMM
Select Priiloader -Press A
Priiloader 0.4 Installer will load
Read the warning- Press +/A to install
After priiloader installs, it may give error or freeze- this is ok (hold power for 10sec if needed to power off the wii)
Hold reset and boot wii while holding reset- priiloader will load
Select "System Menu Hacks"- Press A
Enable "Block Disk Updates", and "Block Online Updates", others if you like
4.3 wiis, enable "Bannerbomb" others if you like
:)If MMM loads at boot, select Manage Priiloader, Edit Priiloader Hacks, enable needed hacks.:)
If you don't know what the hack does- you don't need it.
Your wii should now block Disk updates and online updates.
Step 6- Clean all this crap off your sd card
Don't leave these mod files on your sd card
Delete everything.
You can keep the hacks.ini and hbc-forwarder.dol on the card if you like
Restore any stuff to the sd-card that you had before you started.
Older dop-mii method for <4.2
FIX: Semi-Bricked wii from out of region disk update
Your system settings is locked, give Opera error or similar- caused by region mismatched typically from disk update from an out of region game.
This will work on any wii- Hardmods and Softmods
If your system menu is <4.x (ie, no SD ICON), upgrade to 4.x using any in-region game with that update. New Super Mario Bros is an excellent choice to update to 4.1- just be sure the game is in your region, or you'll still be semi-bricked. If you have HBC installed, you can use the method below- just launch from HBC.
4.1 update isos to be added in the future (maybe)
For all 4.x semi bricks, ie. you have the SD ICON at the bottom of your channel menu- do the following.
Backup and format your sd-card
Extract Dop-Mii_v12_CB2_BB2.zip to sd:\
Click the SD ICON from the channel menu
Load the boot.dol, dop-mii starts
Select Install ios36 with fakesign
Install from NUS if the wii is online
Install from SD for offline install, and extract these wads to sd:\wad
IOS15-64-v257.zip
IOS15-64-v523.zip
IOS36-64-v3351.zip
Be sure to apply all 3 patches to ios36
If you have cios38, you can skip this part and use ios249 below
Select ios36, press A
Select ios, mios, bc, press A
Install IOS60-v6174 with all 3 patches
Install IOS70-v6687 with all 3 patches
Place the wad is sd:\wad for offline install from SD, or just install from NUS

Click on the SD ICON again, priiloader installer will run. Install priiloader.
Hold reset and boot the wii while holding reset- priiloader will load
Click hacks, enable- "block disk updates", and "block online updates"
Now your wii is safe from those evil updates. From now on you will update manually via dop-mii if ever needed(rare).
Warning: This process is well tested and very very safe, but like all thing there are risks and this could brick your wii.
