    4.1 semi-bricked ... game disk update failed

There was a little accident when I tried to manually patch in version 4.1J (I have a Japanese console)... got the 4.1U patch instead. So of course I now lost the function going into the setting menu.

I tried using the game disk update (from New Super Mario Bros Wii (JAP) which has a preloaded 4.1J in it) to overwrite whatever mistake I have made but it didn't work. Will I need some game that currently runs on 4.2J to un-semi-brick the Wii?

What other options do I have to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.

You can use a game with 4.2j to fix this. If you have a mod chip you will loss region free function

If you are softmodded it is a simple fix. If you would like to softmod it and fix it, do steps 1-3 of the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide below.

Let me know want and I'll post the rest.

@jax thanks for the warm welcome

    @mauifrog
I DO have a modchip (though I don't know which one) so is there another way to fix this without lossing the region free function? And I haven't heard of any Japanese game right now that uses 4.2J.

    Thanks

As mauifrog already said, to fix it without a newer disc update, you'll have to softmod your wii. Homebrew apps can fix it for you. Reread maui's post and look in his sig for a link to the guide.

I do have homebrew app installed and the reason why it semi-broke was because I tried to manually install 4.1J but installed 4.1U instead. I don't want to lose the mod chip functions so I will wait for mauifrog's reply. Thanks for the concern though.

You should be able to install IOS60-patched.zip
    then install
    4.1J-RVL-WiiSystemmenu-v448.wad

Use wadmanger with ios249. You need to be softmodded with cios. If your not do steps 1-3 of the 3.1-4.1 guide linked below. I sounds like you have done this already.

I actually followed the 2nd method posted here:

    We Hack Wii / Firmware

to do the updating. But instead of using the v448.wad (JP) I used the v449.wad (US) by accident and I couldn't uninstall it afterward and I am not sure if I can overwrite it with v448.wad (want to ask first before screwing things up even more).

So I want to confirm that if I use the game update method to unbrick the wii, the mod chip will no longer have its function?

You can just overwrite the current system ios and system menu with the new ones. Uninstalling anything would be a very bad idea. If you update from disk to 4.2 you will be unable to play out of region games from the disk channel. You would need to use a loader. Since your softmodded already, you may as well lose disk loading all together and explore usbloading.

Ok I will try to overwrite the existing files if possible. My main computer just died (probably a power supply failure though I still have to take it out to check tomorrow) so I current don't have the time to fix the Wii

I will install the v448.wad and let you know how it goes ASAP.

    Thanks for the help!!
