    semi bricked? need help

    |So I had another thread going here but since i ran into a new problem, i am starting this one.
I went to check what version my wii was , and poof you guessed it, got some error about marc:fix/us/english or whatever it is, wont let me access settings.\
so from what i have read I am semi bricked. So looking to google it sent me on a chase for a file called wii-ntsc-systemmenu-v289.rar
well cant seem to find it, found a few videos of people using it, but the file itself I xcannot find. It seems simple enough,
Is this what I am looking for , or something else all together?
I am running an older wii, with original wiikey. I have no clue what game did this as my 7 year old most likely did it. I did have nsmb in there, but told him not to hit update if it asks for it, and he claims he didnt.
    any help is greatly appreciated.

wii-ntsc-systemmenu-v289.rar is most likely not the file you want.

What region is your wii supposed to be? USA ntsc, Jap ntsc, or EU pal?

Is your wii softmodded? If it is not you will need to do steps 1-3 from the 3.1-4.1 guide linked below if you want to fix it now. So do those steps, come back with the above answers and we will move forward. Easy fix.

OK, do steps 1-3 from the 3.1-4.1 guide linked below

Then download ios60patched and system menu 4.1u to sd:\wad
Now load HBC, then launch wadmanager.
    In wadmanager use ios249
    Install ios60patched first
    then
    Install system menu 4.1u second

After that you should be fixed, but to prevent this issue in the future I recommend installing preloader and disabling disk update checks.
    Download preloader here
    Install it in the HBC
Place the hacks.ini on your sd-card,
Hold reset and boot the wii, then enable any desired hacks.

Also you now have a better wii, check out usbloaer gx, you may love it compared to disks.

If you don't want to do the above you will need to wait for a new game to come out with a system menu update to 4.2u.

This should be the best way.

got brave, held the power button down, restarted, now it looks like its backing up.
I am assuming it would be a good idea to back it up after I update it too?

You can make as many backups as you like. Just keep them organized. Where you able to install bootmii as boot2? Or just ios? Boot2 is better.
