Considering the price, you would be better off buying a used wii. Mainboards cost around $90, used wii cost around $99-149. Someday this will be fixed (I think).

So I have 2 options now.
I can wait, wait wait till someone finds a way to hack/fix it (which can take a while)
    or
Buy a new motherboard, which will allow me to play again.

Can I just buy any new motherboard, or needs to be same type/region etc.
Also how does it look like? I know there is also a mobo for the dvd drive only, not that I buy the wrong one.

ps: how do I check which drive I have?
If you want to play it now, you can buy a motherboard, any good repair shop will have them, however they are rare, they have to come out of new unbricked wiis which can make it more money/time than its worth. We don't know when a solution will come out, this brick is tricky. If you got a repair shop to change you wiis motherboard e.g your bricked KOR motherboard for a unbricked NTSC or PAL motherboard, it would make your console that region, which will add gamecube backward compatibility to the console. The repair shop can check the drive number, however I think changing the motherboard can erase your game memory/saves, however you can download them from the internet, or you can send them to Brisbane for a repair without needing to change the Motherboard.

Hi everyone, I'm currently talking with comex(maker of Smash Stack & Bannerbomb) for a possible fix for this problem. He has hinted that maybe a Smash Stack port to PAL may be a way. Can anyone boot SSBB PAL?

If your wii has 4.2 usa firmware then the pal version of SSBB cannot run because its not same region. Of course if your wii is running 4.2 european firmware it should be the perfect solution.

Many of us would not be able to unbrick our wii even with smash stack to SSBB pal.

    Lightbulb Working solution

I have an idea, if we can find a trusted member in the community with very good skills in electronics and also willing to help for a good compensation then we can fix it.

We all donate money to a trusted person via lets say paypal, he then buy himself a NAND programmer for the money. We then send our mainboards to him and he will reprogram them.

He will then of course get to keep the NAND programmer which is pretty expensive, that will be our payment to him.

What do you guys think of the idea?

That doesn't make much sense that NTSC won't boot & modchips don't allow region-free gaming. I thought they did? Why wouldn't NTSC SSBB boot do you think?

That isn't really hacking, we're looking for a long-term solution accessible to anyone anywhere via the internet.

I think many of us would just like to have our wiis working

The long term solution is to never update the firmware unless it has been hacked or confirmed as safe. In other words solve the problem before flashing instead of flashing and then find a solution.

comex did say awhile ago on GBAtemp that if someone sent him there 003'd Korean Wii he would most likely figure out a fix.
you should send him your 003'd Korean Wii to see if he can figure it out,if i had another one i would but i gave the last one away a few months ago

True, however I think most of us would want it for free also & if we wanted our wiis so bad we we resorted to NAND Programming, we probably wouldn't need this forum/thread.
