I don't know. You would not be able to use those disks if you where. On these wiis you can only autoboot game disks. The disks usually need to be patched to autoboot, but not all of them, and the modchip needs to be configured to autoboot as well (usually). Without a modchip you can not boot anything.

The wii was initially softmodded to some extent to do the region change, but most of that was removed during the 4.2 update.

If you are not sure if the wii has a chip, look at the screws, see if the sticker covers are removed, look for signs of tampering. It probably does not have a chip, but it could, you may have to open it up.

Ok, I will start to try part 1-4 in post 1 and then I will see if anything happens. I bought my wii in China recently as a brand new device although I knew it was modded somehow. If my system will boot after part 4, then I assume that my wii is hard-modded (as well).

    Many thanks for your input.

    copied from my gbatemp post

Where the hell'd you get the 4.2K partition?
Was it on the Animal Crossing: City Folk Korean version that you "acquired"?

I would test it out on my Korean Wii, but it has a D3-2 drive... (and I don't want to perform drive tranplant surgery on it today).

    @Nintendo
It's been done. You've failed... again.
It took us 4 months, but then...
You generously gave us an officially signed 4.2K update partition....
Just sitting on Animal Crossing: City Folk Korean version...
Your newest Korean game was your own downfall...
You should've stuck with 4.1... oh well... too bad...

    Yarrr!
Yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum!

I guess I don't need to hunt down that repair disc now.

So, I dissasembled my bricked US-adopted Korea wii and it turns out that that it was only soft modded, i.e. no hw-chip., which now is erased (?) due to big N's evil 4.2 system upgrade. Is there another way to unbrickd it or do I have to do it by first adding a chip mod, e.g. wasabi? I've tried part 1-4 at post 1 but noting happens, i.e. it is stucked after the savemiifree "bypass" and no autoboot will occur. I tried with both +R and -R DVD's and with different games padded with Wii autoboot creator. Still, all games was US NTSC. I did'n find any Korean games this far.

Your wii will not boot anything without a chip, so wait until this is confirmed by someone with a chip.

my created disc boots using Drivekey but it bypass the update, it went directly to the game, not sure if i successfully created the disc because when i tried to load it via disc channel. the disc on the channel keeps on spinning and not asking for an update or the game was not loading at all, by the way, i use Wii Fit again to create the disc. when i checked the image, the update partition (partition 0) was marked as "bad", i cant collapse the contents of the partition.
