    hi mauifrog

i am trying this guide on a korean wii with 003 error

i did exactly what the tutorial said, savemefrii shows 4.3U and autobooks the patched disc1.iso mario kart dvd
When i try to install the channel it tells you that it will use a certain amount of memory and i hit "O"K and the screen goes black
nothing happens after that, stays with black screen

If i hit home on the screen that tells you about the memory that will be used ,and swap the disc with SSBB it gives error 003 again

    any ideas?

You do need to press home when swaping the disc at the install screen, Make sure the disc spins up before pressing the install, don't wait to long or to it to quickly.

I have a friend with a 003 console , the system menu does not load but priiloader does and he can go to HBC from there .
What should he install to get it to work ? Is the modpack enough ? Does he need the KOR modpack ? What system menu should he install , a KOR one or EUR ?

He should do chapter 2 of my softmod guide, install the region mod-pack you wants the wii to be and ensure the region settings match the modpack. So if you has a USA error 003 he should install the ntsc-u modpack. Don't forget the cios pack.

I tried the second method, with another game swap disc, worked like a charm

i was able to recover a 003 korean wii, altho after recovery the system menu was corrupt in some way because when i tried to change some configurations on the wii like for exsample resolution or internet it showed a blank screen with dots, so i went ahead and just used the other tutorial to format the nand and start from scratch.

this is the best wii forum, full of incredible tutorials.

It was semi bricked, region setting mismatch.

003 error, having trouble following the tutorial

I bought my Wii in China. I just moved to Hong Kong and when I connected to the Internet, it downloaded updates and bricked. I had no idea it was a Korean system or anything else. Stupid. So I have managed to get a GC controller and dismantled it and gotten to the '4.3 US' black screen and not sure what to do next. I have thrown every disc I own into the system at this point (including super mario cart and wii fit) and nothing happens. I took it in to a guy in the dodgy computer center in central Hong Kong and he said that he has seen 2 versions of this error, one that had a coloured band on the screen (or something like that) and one that was just white text on the black screen. He said that he has been unable to fix the latter one and thinks it is probably hopeless. He said that the former version of the error he has been able to fix using what sounds like the fix described here.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Can someone be kind enough to go through these steps a bit more clearly for a noob? I don't have a copy of SSBB and tried to download various versions from torrent sites but found dozens of different versions in different sizes. Should I use ntsc or pal? will the dvd-5 version work or do i need the dvd-9? I saw dvd9 versions that were different sizes too so I bet I could go through a million of them without getting the right one.

Any help would be appreciated. It is great to see that some people have had success on this forum and I am feeling a bit of a dummy that I don't understand the instructions (I even saw some videos and am still unsure, one guy seemed to get past the '4.3 US' screen with a Beatles Rock Band disc in one I saw on YouTube) so if anyone out there that has done this successfully could walk me through it, I would be very grateful.

Both of the wiis are fixable with this method. The one that shows the error, use game disc matching the region displayed in RM. The wii with the colored lines must use USA game patched with Korean region string, then load SSBB-KOR. So your wii is 100% fixable, you just need the needed supplies, dvd media, modchip, dvd drive compatible with modchip backup loading, time and patience, etc.
