    Preloader v0.29 and IOS60

    Hi, everybody!

I am probably putting a problem that some of you have already addressed, but I could not find with the search in the forum, then I humbly ask your help ...

I have this problem: a friend of mine gave me his Wii claiming that's brikked. It mounts a firmware 4.0E.

The situation is the following: when I turn on the Wii apart from the "Preloader" with the usual menu:

    ##################################################
    # "Systemmenu"
    # "Homebrew Channel"
    # (...)
    #
    # And "Error autobooting HBC: title maybe not installed?"
    # IOS V60
    # Systemmenu v418 preloader: v0.29
    ##################################################

    Now if I click on:

"Systemmenu" -> message file corruption ... (so the Wii Menu does NOT start)
"Homebrew Channel" -> "Error autobooting HBC: title maybe not installed?"

IMPORTANT: If in the menu "Settings" I change the "System Menu IOS" from "60" to "249" or "250", the system menu properly starts, but I've no access to all the features, so I can not access Internet or format the Wii.

I repeat, it mounts Firmware 4.0E.

It would be enough for me to even get to "format" the Wii for having a clean one on which act (getting rid of the preloader and so on), so do not make any problems in saving data or other problems and feel free to advise me what you think!

I look forward to your news! Thanks again and congratulations for your site!

As you are a first time poster here is some info you will require.

Check you are still on 4.0 and it has not been updated. It looks like preloader cannot find HBC, thats usually down to an update of 4.2.

No point in formatting the Wii this will not improve anything.
You can try reloading the system menu, this will remove preloader, and if you are not bricked get you to the system menu.

Hi and welcome to WiiHacks lelloporcello

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Don’t be shy, ask if you are stuck, just don’t expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index Ultimate WiiHacks Index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Don’t update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.

When my systemmenu starts (that is choosing IOS 60 in preloader settings, saving the settings and clicking on "System menu"), I can check that I'm still on 4.0E.

Do you know a way to reload the system menu in my situation? I thought about two possibilities, but tell me if they've sense:

    Choice 1:
I think I should use some kind of Wad Manager to load a "System Menu 4.0 PAL.wad" file, but:

    1. I don't know if it is the right thing to do
    2. I don't know HOW to do it ...

Could you help me or give me some references to do it, please?

    Choice 2:
Don't you think that could be useful to (re-)install IOS249? Systemmenu is starting correctly from preloader if I choose IOS249, but only some functionalities are really available (e.g., BootMii) and it often freezes: could it be caused by the fact the IOS249 is not (correctly) installed or what else?

Maybe these are stupid questions, but I will really appreciate Wiihacks' help!

    Thanks again for your support!

Your questions are not stupid, it shows you are thinking about it.
Choice 1 is the thing to do.
You are right you have to install a wad, this is done with wad manager
    from HBC

This is not a problem of cIOS, if you want to remove preloader you have to reinstall your system menu.
The new priiloader has an install and uninstall feature.
You can use NUS to down load the your system software, and it will output it as a wad.

    Perhaps choose 249 in preloader.
Check settings of preloader before deleting it

Ok! My problem is that HBC looks not working with all functionalities, because actually it let only BootMii start and nothing else... do you know a Wad Manager version that I could try and should work correctly?

Great! I just did it, choosing "Database -> System -> System menu -> v418 (4.0E)" and now I've a wad file with my System menu.

...but the old one does not, right? The only way to get rid of it is reinstalling systemmenu...correct me if I'm wrong...

    So you suggest me to:

    1. Download the wad file of System menu 4.0E (did it!)
    2. Setting the preloader to IOS249
    3. Entering Systemmenu
    4. Starting HBC
    5. Starting Wad Manager and running the file of point (1.)

Did I misunderstand something? My doubt is in point 4 and 5, because I'm not sure about which version of wad manager is correctly working on this configuration, as I said before.... what do you think about it?

Thanks once more for your great support!!!

Setting preloader to 249 is to check if that works
Any version of wad manager is Ok, 1.4 or 1.5
The old preloader has no uninstall

    to recap.
1.check settings of preloader, it may be OK, autoboot = system menu return = system menu. save settings. Hacks.ini file is in SD\root.
    2. if you cannot get this working, copt wad to SD\wad. select HBC, select wad manager, install wad.

    Thanks! That's what I did:

    1. Turned on the Wii
    2. Checked the preloader settings: "Autoboot = system menu" "return = system menu" and "Save Settings" (IOS is set to 249)
    3. At reboot I entered the HBC and tried to make Wad Manager 1.4 start, but it freezed with a blank screen
    4. So I restarted Wii and tried with Wad Manager 1.5, but I got a blank screen once more

So it looks I'm not able to start any Wad Manager with IOS249...

I attached here the "installer.log" that I found in this Wii when they gave it to me: maybe it could help in understanding what happened to this dam'nd Console (because it's not mine, but I'm authorized to do EVERYTHING on it to make it work!!) ...

What do you think it's the best next move? Thanks!

So you cannot get HBC to run. do you get a message no vulnerable ios installed.
    If so see this link.

I said do steps 1 and 2 and check if that works, not go ahead and do the the rest.
You seem to be doing sevaral steps together.
Do one thing at a time and check it.
I have no idea what state your system is in.

    If you mean:

Step 1: "check settings of preloader, it may be OK, autoboot = system menu return = system menu. save settings. Hacks.ini file is in SD\root"
Step 2: "if you cannot get this working, copt wad to SD\wad. select HBC, select wad manager, install wad"

I did them: Step 1 was ok, no problem with it; Step 2 was NOT successful. Did you mean these steps?

Sorry, but maybe I did not understand what you meant.

    Sorry to butt in

Put wadmanagers boot.dol file in the root of the sd-card
Downlaod ios60patched.zip and extract to sd:\wads
Download your system menu wad from nus.
You say it is 4.0e, what is the serial # of the wii, LU or LE
If it is LU download system menu v417 (4.0u)
If it is LE download system menu v418 (4.0e)
Now hold reset and boot the wii
    Preloader should start
    Click load/install
    load boot.dol wadmanager should start
    1st install ios60patched.wad
    2nd install system menu wad
Then proceed to the 3.1-4.1 guide below, do step4-5, installing ios60patched, upgrading to 4.1, and installing priiloader.
    Ipsa scientia potestas est.
