I suppose this maintenance mode is like Windows Safe Mode in which it loads only a very small amount of stuff.
Maintenance mode is a secret mode that is build-in to every Wii console. Noone knows the real use of it, but sometimes, it seems to be accessible on a bricked Wii. This is why we recommend trying it before trying another method.

    Required:
    * Wii with working Health screen

    Guide:
    1. Turn on the Wii and you will see the Health Screen. Now instead of pressing A, hold + and -, then press A. (keep holding till the screen changes!)
    2. If you did it correctly (and your Wii isn't bricked enough to ruin it), you will see a message on the screen saying the Wii is in Maintenance Mode.
    3. This mode allows you to do everything except using the Wii message board, so make use of that to backup saves or to run the HBC!
It could be something in the message board and I do remember something I read about it, oooh, ages ago. Searching for something now.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

I'd forgotten about it too. In these days of Bootmii and Preloader the built in tools tend to be forgotten.

Yes well the issue I partially recalled was, now that I checked, actually more about locking up when message board was loaded and the user's inability to receive messages. A system format did clear that issue up.

I see the problem here to be somewhat different.

If you'd like to enter maintenance mode, copy your saves to SD or something and try the format then at least you won't lose anything important like your 241 star Mario Galaxy save (Yes I'm that sad I have one).

Yea i backed up all my saves and formatted the wii and it works fine now. Even after formatting, bootmii and preloader still work so i'm in the process of reinstalling HBC and all the channels i lost haha. Thanks for all the help.

Good to hear. So that must be the first time that a Wii system format has actually done some good.

One last question, can I create wads of the channels using NUSD and install through WadManager? I read about WiiNCU but it needs a connection and my internet here kinda sucks haha.

There's an option on the App called Pack>WAD which'll create a wad file in the folder the downlosd creates.
