System menu 4.1U, LU3995 serial (start)

I came across a Wii recently. System menu says 4.1U, boots up using SaveMiiFree, boots normally also. There are guides out there for installing HB on this kind of system. I am looking to find out what BOOT LOADER it has (Boot 2 version). Is there a definite way to find out. I won't want to NOT be able to install BootMii and Preloader. I failed to do this previously and bricked my Wii (low level brick). I fully intend to do the NAND backup, get the NAND keys, and have the necessary precautions in place (NO 4.2 system). No downgrade shit, just have precautions in place and do my homework before doing something stupid.

    ANY advice is appreciated. Tealc???

The serial number appears old enough for boot2 bootmii, but the only way to tell is to run the hackmii installer, it will tell you. There is a great guide linked below for your system menu. Just be sure to read it, bootmi as boot2 in preferable, if not an option install as ios and you must use preloader.

I used banner bomb to get into the hackmii stuff. It said Bootmii ONLY as an IOS as Boot1 was patched in this Wii. WOULD I have protection with Preloader and bootmii as an IOS in case of a brick???? This makes me nervous and not want to even try. Bricked one with updating the shop channel (or it was IOS60 patched that I installed). This has been rough for me.

Preloader and bootmii as ios do not come anywhere close to the protection provided by bootmii boot2. So if that makes you wish not to continue, then you should not. It is unfortunate, but that is the new wii- until they fix it. It is worth noting that most bricks are not random, but the result of ignorance, rushed decisions, and poor judgment- most are preventable.

To play backups though, I was thinking about the Wasabi DX chip (4rth generation of the Wasabi I think it is). What are your thoughts on this? Mostly I care about playing backups and in this way, I could do normal updates (TO MY KNOWEDGE) and then just play my backups (stupid scratched games are ridiculous).

I have that chip, and it is a good chip, but it can only support 3x. For that reason I softmoded and load everything from usb. And in my opinion there is no substitute to a softmodded usb load, not even the wode would make me happy in that regard. Usb load is >6x, I thing 8x but not sure.

Hit the nail on the head with the last sentence.
