Ca Semi Bricked Wii - Nothing Seems to Work! Please help.

Let me start by acknowledging that I am a N00b, idiot or what-have-you. I donít understand half the stuff I'm reading. I have a chip modded Wii, I canít recall which chip and I donít know how Iíd figure out which aside from opening (and ruining) the thing. I know how to burn a game to ISO, stick it in the console and play it.

I got greedy while waiting impatiently for New Super Mario and downloaded the PAL version. I installed updates only assuming that if it didnít work, the screen would go funky, Iíd throw the disk out and wait another 4 days for the NTSC release. Not so much. So hereís my question:

What version of system menu do I have now? I cannot access the system settings (opera thing) How can I revert to an earlier state? I have BootMii and am aware of the NAND backup (AFTER) I semi bricked the wii so I do not have a backup.

The console is relatively functional but Iíd like to repair it and have it so I can fix it easily (nand restore) in future. Iíve tried the wad manager/installing the IOS30 and system setting something or other but neither install, thereís always an errorÖ I really donít understand it all.

Based on ďwhere I amĒ (installed Mario, donít know what itís done to my console/what is buggy in terms of system settings and iosísÖ can someone explain what my best course of action is?

I'm not looking for criticism, I get that enough at home. If there is a solution, Iíd be greatly appreciative. I need to reinstall the system setting thingie and the ios thingie without it telling me there is an error.

FINALLY, I would like to get the new Mario game. I know of wii scrubber and etc. If I follow the instructions in that tutorial, will it mess up my system again???

    Thank you,

    Thank you,
i think you have whats called out of region brick?
have you got homebrew channel? and what firmware are you on?
if you havent got homebrew channel
    install hackmii installer available below.

    BootMii.org

install it by going to wii/ datamanagment/ channels/sd and putting the sd card in.

if you already have homebrew channel download the correct ios and system menu from

    NUS Downloader - WiiBrew

you can see which ios and system menu you need by checking this link below.

    System Menu - WiiBrew

if you cant install wads then you need to install a cios first.

alternativaly there is a tutorial in the bricked wii section on restoring wii using cboot2.

i think i am correct in what i have said, if not please let me know.

I am not responsible for any of your actions taken when attempting to fix your wii.

Thanks for the info, i'll have to try it tonight. Can you elaborate on what is/purpose/how to install a CIOS?

How can I check my firmware version? I cannot access system settings & I don't know what my last update was & if the Mario game has updated it to 4.2, for example.

if you can load bootmii then you can find what system menu is installed by going to the last thing on the right (settings/looks like cogs) then click on the info symbol.

a cios is what is needed to install wads. a cios usually comes as a dol file, cios38rev14 would be a boot.dol file (may be called cios38rev14.dol) but you rename it to boot.dol, then put an apps folder on the root of your sd card put a file called cios 14 in the apps folder then put the boot.dol file in the cios14 folder. load homebrew run the app/cios14 it will start a screen select load and install via network.

as for mario game (there is a guide on wii hacks regarding that.)

the cios doesnt have to be 38rev14 but that is the latest one that works well.

I don't actually know which update NSMBW has yet. It's going to be at least 3.4 and this is confirmed by your lack of ability to install wads. I doubt if it's 4.2 though as it's too new an update to have been ready for worldwide disc manufacture.

Nintendo designed the Wii to brick like this when you run an out of region brick.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
