    Unhappy 4.2u Black Screen

    Hello all,

    Idiot noob, here,

I "had" a Wii on 4.2u was upgraded from 4.1 using waninkoko's updater, , hackmii installer wouldn't work to bring back HBC. Tried bannerbomb to load wad manager and install ios36. Installing ios36 didn't work. Still no HBC but system menu worked fine. In frustration I deleted the following wads: 15-64-v257, 15-64-v523, 36-64-v3551, 202-v4, 222-v4, 223-v4, 249-v14, 250-v65535, 70-v6687. Then before restarting I installed 36-64-v1042. After restart I had black screen of death.

Obviously preloader wasn't installed at this point and I do not know if I had bootmii installed. How would I tell?

If it helps I have a modded gcn controller, and instant access to a wiikey v1.9

Do I have a full brick, semi-brick? Can this be fixed or must I ship to Nintendo?

Oh and feel free to flame to death as I more than deserve it.

Flame flame flame flame at you, that sounds bad. You could have asked for help before deleting your wads.

Bootmii as boot2 could save your but. You will need to put the bootmii files onto your sd card- these should be backup on you pc, or you will have to find them with your region settings. Then put the sd card into the wii and turn it on. If you had it I would think you would know.

Cross your fingers, try savemiifrii with your gc controler, see if you can enter the recovery menu.

If either of those work then you should be ok, after you pull all your hair out.

If those don't work, your screwed- sorry.

Well I looked in the main sticky thread but I didn't see any region settings for 4.2u, only up to 4.1u? I've also tried the gc controller but am having no luck, unless I am doing it wrong.

The bootmii files will be u, e, j
They are independent of menu version

Don't give up on savemiifrii. It can be tricky, your timing must be perfect.

    Question Chip?

Ok, let me ask this. Do I need to chip the wii in order for savemiifrii to work? Same question except for bootmii? I want to know before I rip the chip out of my working wii and put it in the bricked wii.

Note the chip is a wiikey + wii-clip updated to 1.9s

savemiifrii will allow you to enter the recovery menu, you do not need a chip for this. But if it works you need a chip or cioscorp install to launch an autoboot cd to fix your trouble. Don't put a chip in it until you see a black screen with your firmware # in the bottom right corner.

Chip is not need for bootmii boot2 installs.
Take your sd card out and boot the wii, if you see a brief set of flashed from the blue slot led right after you hit the power button. If you don't see those flashes bootmii/boot2 is not installed.

Well every time I turn the wii on I see the blue slot led flash as if it's checking for a game disc. Is this what you mean? I mean how many flashes and how long of flashes are talking here.

Well unfortunately I am not lucky enough to have bootmii as boot2, so I have not seen it myself. Your decription sounds correct, so put those bootmii files for you region on an sd card and fire it up. If you can get to bootmii it can be fixed.

It should do that without a disc
