    Cios38rev14 installed successful?

Preloader is still working? You can still boot system menu using ios36? I am not sure what your trouble is. You should be able to install system menu regardless of its current presences. It should also be working with ios249.

Try again with ios249, if it crashes download cios38rev14 again and reinstall.

    mauifrog,
I have re-downloaded cios38rev14 installer from tealc and loaded via preloader, again I get the issue of the remote losing sync when the installer loads. I originally had this issue but was later able to install it successfully via banner bomb.

    Preloader is still working.
System menu does not load with ios36 complaining about not finding boot file.

I just went through a similar issue, only with a 4.2 system menu, erro 1022. You can read it here.

First ensure you have aleast 250 open block or more.

    Download dop ios mod
Try to load it from preloader
In dop ios select ios 249
You will use dop ios to
    Install IOS50-64-v4889- no patches
    then
    Install 3.4E-System Menu-PAL-v386- no patches.

Don't install anything else, don't downgrade, take it slow read the options of the program.
Your wii needs to be online for this, so hopefully it is.

Also, has the ios or system menu changed in preloader?

The values shown in preloader have not changed:
    IOS v50
    System menu v386
    Preloader v0.29

Is there somewhere I can look to see how many open blocks in preloader?

dop ios failed to load, copied boot.dol and other files to root of sd. Installed/loaded the boot.dol but get scrambled white text on black screen (unreadable, but looks like possible code dump error).

Why don't you give this a try.
Install the usbloader gx forwarder into preloader
Install usbloader gx to you sd-card
Now you should be able to boot into usbloader and play games from a usb drive, have a drive pluged in for this to work.
But from usbloader you should be able to exit into the homebrew channel, and from the homebrew channel you can load bootmii.
From bootmii should be able to tell you how many free blocks you have.

Try to load dop ios from the hbc, see if it will load. If so attempt to install your system menu- make sure you install the right one, no patches. Your wii must be online for this to work.

Also try to download NUS, and download your system menu and pack as wad, just in case the one you have is corrupted- then attempt to reinstall with wadmanager again.

mauifrog, thank you for your advice. In attempting the latest post (and getting an ISI exception) I may have found a solution to the DSI and ISI errors I recieved when loading boot.dol files from preloader.

I found another post saying to install then use the preloader setting to have it boot the file on reboot instead of loading it.

So I tried this with USB loader and it loaded, so I went back and tried this method with Dop IOS and that then worked aswell.

I chose IOS's IOS50 and it says v4889 is currently installed and the option I get is (-) to install an old v4889 of IOS50. Does that mean that is already correct and I then move onto installing the System Menu?

I went as far down the System menu path of selecting 3.4 and Europe (E) but thought I should stop here and check.

Again I feel this is moving forward so thanks again for your help.

Since the last item you installed wad ios50, it should be there. You can either install it again or skip it and just install the system menu. Just make sure you don't uninstall, or patch.

Success, installing the system menu now has the system menu loading correctly and I no longer have preloader.

    What is my next step?
I think my brother is buying a wode, should we be trying to return it to a virgin state to use with that?

You should return to the 3.1-4.1 guide and upgrade to 4.1. Be sure to install ios60patched first, then upgrade to 4.1, then you should install preloader or priiloader, guide is linked below- also you should download the installer directly from wiibrew as I believe a few people may have acquired corrupted installers.

Also if you do get the wode we would love to know how you like it, there should be no reason to virgin your wii to use it.

Thank you, well I had hoped to stop asking questions now but since you have been so good I thought it best to ask here after not finding a simple answer elsewhere.

I'm following the 3.1-4.1 guide but when installing bootmii I get the following in the installer.log (as you can see it complains about the non vulnerable ios which I also had previously in another attempt in this thread). HBC loads up side down but I assume this is still operable.

There is no known vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii.
Please note that we will not use a fakesigned IOS due to
    security reasons.

Look for an updated version at:

If this is already the latest version... well, suck it.
