Greetings. After successfully soft-modding 2 wiis (though not fully understanding what I was doing), I managed to brick the third.
I followed the same tutorial each time on instructables.com, which said to do the following steps.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]
-Run CMDVDX35 and choose Downgrade IOS35.
-Run WAD Manager choose IOS35 and install IOS35-64-v1040.wad then restart
-Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 choose IOS35 and install cios_fix.wad then restart
-Run cIOS36_rev10-Installer and choose WAD Installation
-Run WAD-Manager again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18
-While still in WAD Manager install SystemMenuv###.wad
-Run preloaderv0.29-cred and press 1 to install
-Hold reset while powering on to access preloader and set preloader settings. In preloader hacks enable "Skip disc update check" and "enable region free" save these settings and press B to exit to the preloader menu and select top option of "systemmenu" with A to get to your Wii menu.
-Use firmware-updater_4.0 to update to 4.0 sysmenu
-install IOS60 installer
say NO to install IOS61
say YES to install IOS60
say YES to patch IOS60
say NO to install the shop channel
-Return to the Homebrew Channel and reinstall preloader
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything was perfect until the last step... reinstalling preloader 0.29. It said that it installed successfully, but it froze with the 'waiting 5 seconds...' text. I reset the Wii, and now all I get is a black screen. No sound. No wii remote control.
One other thing I should mention is that I updated the HBC right before installing the preloader the last time.
I just read that the IOS60 installer downloads a file from Nintendo before applying the patch, and the file I downloaded may have been injected with something that caused the brick. Is this true?
Is this a full brick? I used the chart on this forum
[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] to figure out what I should do next. It lead me to the bottom right option, which is to install a drivechip and run 'Any Region Changer' and reinstall the system menu.
HOWEVER, when I read another post here that explained how to do this, it said that it typically does not work on wiis that only have a blackscreen and no error msg (second reply by Tealc: 'This guide is designed for people with banner bricks, typically those that give an error screen. It's not going to work on uninstalled system menu's as it requries that code to launch the recovery console as seen in the video.').

I apologize if this information is out there... I've been trying to piece it all together myself. I'm willing to spend the money on a DriveKey if it will save my friend's wii. EDIT: If I do need to purchase a DriveKey, should I get one that is preprogrammed to autoboot?
After doing more research, I realize that I should have installed BootMii as boot2 before doing anything else after installing the HBC.
If anyone has ANY information that can help me unbrick this wii (is it even possible?), and also, is there a better/safer/more efficient way than what I was doing to mod a Wii so that it can run a USB loader? (link?)
The bricked wii has a serial starting with LU57. EDIT2: It started out at 4.1U. If there is any other information that I can provide that will be of assistance, please let me know.
Thank you!!!!!!
