I would never even think about trying to de-solder a chip off that board, the connects are TOO small.

I am the guy who begged nintendo to take it & fix it even for pay & they said NO
They insisted I return it to the seller or buy a new one.

I am having a problem with my 4.1u Wii now where it will not let me install pre-loader .29
I am afraid to try & install startpatch, because there's no recovery if it goes wrong.

I guess I will have to start the mod all the way from the beginning to get CIOS installed so that pre-loader will install.

the 003 error is the kiss of death for your Wii, just save it for spares or toss it out, it's useless.

for your problem installing preloader v.29
first of all: did you use trucha bug restorer to downgrade ios15, use the ios15 to reconfigure ios36 and then restore ios15?
after this... did you installed ios60 patched?
and... do you know there is a new version of preloader? it has a new name... Priiloader.
you can find it on "wiibrew"
    good night and good luck!
p.s.: I should be able to get an original disc of ssbb an lego indiana jones at the end of this month!
    still keeping my finger crossed!
Feel free to hit the thanks button if you think so...

I hadn't heard about PriiLoader, but I will definitely have a look now that you've mentioned it. I was having NO luck loading Pre-Loader .30 which is how I hosed up my system menu
When I re-installed system menu 4.1u from a WAD it must have wiped out the Truch Bug & CIOS, not 100% sure how I can check.

    new solution??

guys, maybe theres another way. the 003 error is a region error right? which means that the region is meant to be korean, but we updated it into 4.2 US. so, maybe we can send it back to the place where we bought it from and get someone to update it there. it would make the fw a korean one again...

    maybe it will work then.

don't call me a noob for suggesting this. i just got this error when trying to connect with friends (australia) and i bought it from china and i'm guessing that this is a korean version.

it's a 48pin TSOP package 512MB chip. However, easy to remove/solder with a clean round tip soldering iron, for a fairy skillful person. The only drawback is 'where comes the programmed NAND (3.2x/4.0x) for replacement ?"

    Question

& how do you suggest they update it back to a Korean System Menu ?
    the things are FULLY Bricked
about the only way is to remove the NAND & reprogram it, replace the NAND with a known good one, or replace the mother/main board
