Patched ios60 is only used when dealing with the newesr firmwares I think 4.0 and above. The system menu runs off ios60, and the older system menus use a different ios. Cios' are a custom ios and dont affect any ios. Ios are official nintendo ios, as cios are custom made ones. They dont hurt each other. Leave your cios38 rev 14 alone as that is the most current one. The only thing I see that can be a problem is your bootmii installation. I have not seen many people that have had success using bootmii when its installed as ios. If your console was made before october of 08, you could install it as boot2 and then backing up your nand would work fine if you use the correct sd card. Really there are only a few things I make sure I do right to keep from bricking my console. 1: Dont do ANY nintendo updates if its through the systems menu or disc updates and also no out of region updates. 2: If installing wads, make sure they are safe to install first. 3: If upgrading/downgrading, make sure you follow all steps to a T. Now I will get into more detail with those 3 keys. first off I use starfall (basically preloader but for 3.2) and have it set up to bypass all disc updates. The updates you can do within your systems options i dont even touch. When dealing with wads I make sure I read everything there is about that wad. I always get my wads from wadder.net and I always check first to see if anyone has tried it out beforehand. Last, if you are fine with what firmware you are using (as i am perfectly fine with my 3.2) leave it alone. Some people get on my case about how I have a very outdated firmware version. I can still play any backup game I want. I can install usb loader, bootmii, and preloader. The only things i cant do is the system menu hacks, but i dont care about those.
