    I think I'm screwed :(

    Hi all

I'm new to the forum, been lurking for a while but only recently joined. I succesfully softmodded my wii about a month ago and decided to try to get the vc games working by following the installation tutorial.

This was when my problem began.

I had preloader and bootmii installed, (bootmii I have since found out it was only installed as an ios).

In an attempt to allow the vc games to be installed and run, I installed ios60patched, (something I now know to be a BIG mistake), and I got the system files are corrupted at boot message.

In an attempt to rectify this I followed the "How to remove softmods and make your wii a virgin" tutorial, (that was my next major mistake as I can now no longer get into preloader ).

Now all I get at boot is a black screen, the wii will start from the wii-mote but doesn't register and the disc spins up and continues to spin with an original disc. I have tried the savemiifrii technique with the gamecube controller in port 4 with no effect, (albeit with a cheap aftermarket controller).

I have ordered a savemii dongle and downloaded a few different iso images to try to restore the system menu from the disc, I was wondering while I waited for it to arrive if anyone could throw some light on this or give me any suggestions as to what the likelyhood of recovering my wii using the savemii or by using a wasabi dx or similar preset to boot from disc?

Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate this has been asked a thousand and 1 times but thanks for your patience.

    Princy

A quick update, I've tried the savemii dongle with no luck.

Does anyone think this console could be saved with a wasabi dx preset to boot from disc and a nintendo recovery disc or similar?

    Thanks

How far into remove softmod tutorial did you get? What were the ,last few things you did before it went to black screen?

The last steps I managed were to remove all ios's above ios60, then I downgraded the system menu using Systemmenu-v290.wad (which I now know has wiped out preloader ).

When I then rebooted, the screen was black with no response to savemii or savemiifrii.

I have now ordered a Drivekey (config x4 version) preset to boot from disc in a last ditch attempt to save the wii, any suggestions as to the best boot disc to use would be gratefully received as would any views as to whether this would be a likely remedy.

You'll need savemii/savemiifrii to work to actually autoboot your recovery disc though.

Ahh, the retailer said that the drivekey would be set to boot from the disc automatically and the savemii wouldn't be needed, just a suitable boot disc???

I'm a little confused now, they have said they will accept the savemii for refund but I still have it here so would be able use it if needed. Is the wii likely to boot from a disc when in this state, it seems plausible to me that it would?

Is this likely to recover from the low level brick, if so what iso would I need and procedure would I have to follow?

I am assuming that if possible I should get hold of a HBC iso and boot into that, open wad manager and reinstall the missing stock ios wad's and all should be good?

All these things sound plausible but unfortunately the Wii is quite particular in the way it works.

I'm not 100% sure why you are bricked as installing v290 should have bene enough for it to boot 3.2(Pal).

Is your Wii Serial Number LEH250+, LU64+??

    http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...-your-wii.html

As far as I am aware even an autobboting disc requires the recovery menu (by using savemii/frii) to actually do something. Without System Menu this is not possible as the Wii will only load System Menu and will die trying.

Bootmii/Boot2 launches before system menu and that's why it would recover.
Preloader launches before System Menu but does actually require it to be installed for it to function.

Serial number is LEH1396, the last thing I installed was the v290.wad so can only assume this was responsible for my brick which doesn't respond to savemii/savemiifrii.

Thanks for the link to recovering with autoboot tutorial, I had assumed that would be what was needed to allow me to boot the wii and install a fresh system menu or repair the damaged/missing wads

I take it the recovery menu is part of the nand programming which is obviously fried, as you say it sounds feasible, and as it was described by the retailer I bought it from the drivekey would be set to boot straight from a disc containing the relevant/required system files or HBC files as required thus bypassing the files required from nand.

I apologise if I sound clueless but I'm thinking in pc terms, with the wii is this not the case?

    Thanks again for your help

It's not easy to reprogram NAND without running software on the Wii. There was some talk of flashing the NAND using a special modchip called infectus but that never really amounted to anything, or at least not on this forum anyway.

Without Recovery menu,Bootmii/boot2 or Preloader there's really no way you can recover. Maybe this will change in future but I bet it will still require action to be taken before the brick occurs.

I think I've finally got my head round what your saying now, I do however have a glimmer of hope having downloaded a bootmii autoboot disc, I did install bootmii but stupidly not really understanding what I was doing, only as an ios which the bootdisc may be able to boot from.

Last ditch attempt, if there's no luck it looks like it's new console time
