This means an official SOFT MODDING!!!
    Wrong move...
If is the same in your case, some Customer Protection regulation are in place and you can use them!
If I will receive mine fixed and any other details will arise (fees, taxes etc.) I will let you know.
If useful, pls. click the little button.
Adrian, i send you a private message. Please respond.
God i hope this will be resolved 'couse i miss my wii...

Same thing happened to me. Had my wii for a couple of days , updated & BAM! error 003.
So sad. I had a modded US wii before & never had any problems with updates.

The same think happent to me.

I bought the wii from Romania, from the Cluj company. Power on - wii wants an update, and there you go - 003.

Very Frustrating - is there no one who is looking at this.

Reading all the posts it seems that Korean Wii's have a special key to in the hollywood package which identifies them. Now if our Wiis were modded was this still remaining when we did the 4.2 updated. If yes it was easy for ninty to write code to check this and brick us.

Remotes work, Wi-Fi does not work, and neither SD Card nor DVD seem to have any impact. Holding reset during power-on does not work. I cannot send my wi for repair and I am quite happy to rip it open and flash the EEPROM myself if this leads to the answer.

I was able to fix my wii since i got the 003 error through waninkoko's 4.2 updater (I did not use nintendo's 4.2U update so i had all the homebrew stuff intact). Through the rescue menu I was able to downgrade my wii back to 4.1U.

This isnt much help to people who used Nintendo's update, but if you updated using waninkoko's update you can fix it.
