If it runs backup games and you do not see the home brew channel anywhere one of 2 things is up with your wii.

    1) you have a mod chip somewhere

    2) it is softmodded and someone removed the HBC. Without you being able to get to your settings you cannot banner bomb. You can try the twilight hack depending on the firmware you have however if you have 4.x you wont be able to. So the only other option would be to the smash bros hack.

Do me a favor. Power down your wii, before you power it back up hold the reset button and press power. Hopefully it will load preloader. If it does not see if bootmii is installed. You can tell by taking the sd card out and while powering on the system the blue led light on the disc tray will flash 2 times in 1 second.

If we can get that information we can help you further.

while the seller declared "it was a NTSC japan version with soft mod", u can't expect a wiikey modchip inside. Nor, u could settle the #001 error with a wiikey_1.9s_update disc.
perhaps, those softmodded Jap_Wii are capable to play the "oldie" jap game disc fm China-copycats.

at ur case, the OPERA message shows the wii is now semi-bricked ! No big deal. Semibrick could be easily solved. Search for the "semi-brick fix". Lots of threads in this Forum, already.

edit: check and advice the Serial Number as labelled on the side of Wii. Wish ur NTSC-Jap wii was not a softmodded Korean Wii. If Korean, u get another story....

Sociallyantisocial- I have tried that power down and turning it on holding the reset button, but no preloader, also the blue light only blinks once.

With both the twilight hack and the smash bros hack would i need the original game disc from japan?

also my serial number is LAH1011XXXX1

and when i put a Pal game into the wii it asks for a parental code. I know this can be fixed by going into settings.

I just want the settings to work again so i can see if i can get those fuzzy lines off my tv.

    Thanks again

I just realized that from the serial number and other threads that my console is actually a PAL-australian, which is good cause im from aus.

But ive downloaded the fix discs for my reason and still nothing. =( I've looked at the adaptor, and i think its usa, cause it says RVL002(usa)
could this be causing the fuzzying? hmmmm this just gets worse

    Guess i gotta keep searching

If you mean adaptor as in power transformer then I wouldn't have thought a USA 110v transformer would work in Australia. Check the power values written on the label to verify this.

Sounds to me as if someone has updated this Wii to Japan and removed softmods before selling it on.

With a bit of luck it'll be on 3.4 or less, after all if it was disc updated the most it could
    be is 3.4.

Rent a copy of Zelda Twilight Princess and try the TP hack first. I heard that Super Smash hack was USA only.

    Thanks for your reply Tealc,

I meant ac adaptor, the one im using with the wii is a RVL-002 output DC12V 3.7A input AC100-245V 52w 50/60hz

And for the wii- RVL-001 rating 12V 45W

I've put a genuine pal game in there (wii sports) but it has a parental code lock, which i cant change cause settings, does this mean I wont be able to put the twilight Princess in there?

    Thanks

Your transformer is fine, it's multi-voltage.

Actually you might be right, if Zelda also asks for parental lock you won't be able to load it and run the hack.

I'd never even heard of parental lock on Wii before this post.

See if Lego Indiana Jones gives you a parental lock because if not you can always run the Indiana Pwns Exploit

    loading homebrew.

Hi everyone, just two days ago i bought a Wii on ebay, I initially thought that this would bring so much joy but so far it has only brought me misery.

The seller told my it was a NTSC japan version with soft mod and would play everything i throw at it, and stupid me bought the thing. I've tried returning and contacting the buyer but nothing.

I've spent the last two days reading up on all this hacking, homebrewing, preloading stuff and the more i read the more confused i get. I can't seem to do something someone has suggested because i cant either access the wii internet settings, not sure what firmware im on, or dont have the upgrade game.

my problems with the wii are-
    1) when connected to my 40inch sony lcd screen i get these funny vertical lines but when plugged into my 15inch trinitron tv it seems to be clear- I haven't been able to rectify this problem because i cant get into the settings, which brings us to the next problem. I've also wiggled the cables around.

2)Going into my settings i get that "opera" message which i have now learnt is a semi brick.

Only thing that works is the games that came with it, which appears to be from china or japan, i've tried burning games but get error code #001

I've tried the wii system menu update, but it could not read the disc, i've burnt this a few times using varying speeds and different disc, but to no avail.

I've also wondered if there was some sort of modification, so i inspected the screws and they dont seem tampered with- I know this does not make sense.
And put in a wiikey disc but it said there was no wiikey installed.

At this stage i've searched forums from every nook and cranny on the net, i do stumble accross people with the same problem, but they all seem not to get a response, only the ones who know what firmware they were on at first.

Any help at this stage will be helpful, i would like to know what my options are, if any, or just throw it back on ebay.

    So many thanks in advance.

Ok i just changed my firmware to jap3.2 and am getting the operra style message going into settings.
i have put parental controls on and unable to load zelda.
however the hackmii installer can be used to load install homebrew using wii/datamanagment/channels then select sd card and pop in an sd card with the hackmii installer on it. i just used hackmii 2! worked fine.
so at least you will have homebrew installed.
what next, im off to try something! I'LL BE BACK!

I just installed IOS60patchedwad and then installed pal 4.1wad. so im now on 4.1 pal firmware. but check with one of the mods before installing wad system menus or going to 4.1 in case you need a certain Cios.

any games loaded via backuplaunchers will bypass parental controls but im not sure how you are going to get rid of parental controls???????

I REALLY DO HATE PS3 and heat guns and thermal past and blueraydrives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wii best by far
