Ok second question. If I take the Nintendo Disc over to a friends and do a complete backup of his system could I then use that backup to restore my Wii system menu back to some kind of working order. I'm at a complete loss here.
I bought a mod chip and that's all I ever used on my Wii. I never tried hacking it in any way so I have no backups or anything saved to an SD Card since I was never planning on installing Homebrew Channel or anything of that manner. My son installed an update off of a PAL disc to my US Wii. After that I got the semi-brick where I could no longer get into system settings. I've been trying to fix this for months and months but couldn't get any repair discs to load. I found out about the GC controller trick this morning and was finally able to get the Official Nintendo Wii Backup Disc to load. I followed the tutorial about deleting all files so it goes back to factory state and now when I turn it on I get an error that states Fix/US/ENG/SETUP startup_index.html. I'm assuming it deleted the menu system as well. I can still get into the boot screen and load the Nintendo disc. Is there some way for me to fix this? I have no backup of anything. I had no idea about any of this stuff until after my kid installed the update. Is there a way to put the system menu on an sd card and reinstall through the Nintendo disc? I've searched all over the forum and only found one guy mention the same sort of error 16 pages into a thread and there was no response.
It says I'm on 3.4u if that helps any.
Thanks for any help or advice.

This'll be tricky without a prior softmod and custom IOS installation. 3.4 blocks the installation of files which probably would solve your problem.
All I can do at this stage is point you in the right direction of a few tutorials to install a custom IOS and Homebrew so at least you can hack your way back to operation.

Not sure exactly what you've done but using the autoboot discs, or one like it you can at least load a wad manager which should allow you to effect changes to your Wii. There's also other autoboot discs that will load different things for you, enabling different hacking options.

Thank you very much for your help and suggestions. When I find some more time I will try out these tutorials. Thank you again.
Sorry for the bump but I blew the dust off the Wii and started trying to get it to work again. I looked at your links you put up but the problem is I don't have a system menu to do any of those things. I can do the Game Cube Controller trick and get the official Nintendo backup disk to run but that's it. None of the other unbrick disks will boot up. They spin up and nothing ever loads.
So I'm sitting at this error: Fix/US/ENG/SETUP startup_index.html
I can get Nintendo disk to load with the Game Cube Controller but that's the only disk that will load. Anyone have any other ideas?
Download NSMB ntsc unscrubbed version. Use Wii BootMe to set the iso to autoboot. Then autoboot the game with savemiifrii and update to 4.1u. This should fix your issue if it will boot and update.
This would have been a simpiler fix without the system format.

I had a banner brick before but got sick of waiting for an update so I did the delete fix I read about in another thread on here and it completely screwed it up.
The Wife and Kids are playing NSMB right now and are happy as clams. Thank you very much.
