Guitar Hero 5 and a Stupid Teenager

Okay so I came home today with Guitar Hero 5 in hand looking forward to playing it. When I turned my head, my son put it in and hit 'Update' on it. Now the thing powers up, but does not give audio/video.

    1) Is it bricked?
    2) Is there anyway around it WITHOUT cracking the thing open. I've searched the forums, but everyone seems to want to sell you something.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

    Little more info:

It has 3.4 with freeloader and Homebrew on it and I am 100% I put Bootmi on it.

An update wouldnt have caused your console to brick unless the game was an out of region game. You cab do a disc update and it will only possibly affect some homebrew applications if any.

Okay so he did a disk update on Guitar Hero 5 and that's has made the wii not boot. I doubt the a/v cable just croaked right as he hit the update button. Do you have any suggestions, things I can try to get it to at least get past revving up and down?

you said you did bootmii. If you installed bootmii and have your nand on an sd card (which is what you are supposed to do or else bootmii is useless), then simply pop that sd card into your wii and boot it up. It will go right to the bootmii menu. Then youll want to load your nand from the sd card and put it back onto your wii. I havent tried that so I dont know exactly how it works. ome more thing. What region is your console and what region is the game?

US region, same as the game. I buy the games I want and make copies of them (believe it or not), but I was using the USB loader since my DVD drive was getting really noisey.

Unfortunately, the guide that I read didn't say anything about backing up your nand (don't even know what that is) so I'm guessing that's why I'm not getting a boot screen.

The system is revs up, then down and gives me no a/v. I'm guessing it got bricked when he did the update and there is no way around it.....unless someone has some ideas??

If you made a backup prior at some point with Bootmii just run that and all will be back to the way you had it before Guitar Hero 5.
Nintendo' most inspired core game titles are stuck overseas. Nintendo Of America sux when it comes to the localization of these game titles as they court with their new found casual gamer/soccer mom audience this console generation. Thus indirectly promoting the growth of Homebrewing & basically telling their core audience if they want it, mod chip or Homebrew it. Thanks Nintendo! My Wii and its functionalities have never felt more complete than when I took my first sip of the Brew. - Brewaholic

First, let's establish if you installed boot2 bootmii.

Watch the video and tell us if your Wii does the same as the one in the video when you power on. i.e. flashes twice in 1 second.

The problem is the person who wrote the inital bootmii program never mentioned or wrote a guide about doing a backup....or even what the program was for. So there is NO backup.

Thanks for the Youtube link. My wii flashes when the power is turned on initially, then no more flashes. I'm almost thinking that when it did the game update, the software broke the wii. When I did the software, it started updating, then when it went to reboot it just stayed black and never came back.

Any other thoughts before I drive this thing over to nintendo?

OH and thank you for all the tech support. I really appreciate ANY thoughts when it comes to this thing.

That video has two power cycles.

If the light flashes twice like that you have bootmii as boot2, if it lights up just once then you don't.

If you do have boot2 bootmii then you can probably recover this.

If not then you have to wait until 4.0 comes out on discs and then hope that savemii will work.

Did you install preloader? Hold reset as you power on the Wii to find out.

Holding down reset doesn't change anything. Would the Guitar Hero 5 game automatically update the system to 4.0? I thought it was just a game update.

BTW I did the Twilight Hack and just followed the 8 steps.
