Chances are if You go in and exchange it for a new wii, They will label it as defective, and it will most likely be pitched into a dumpster somewhere along the line.
Nintendo is not going to waste their time analyzing every single Wii that comes back. It probably costs them a whole $10.00 or less to manufacture a unit.
I would not be too concerned.
It's a simple solution. Go back to the store(or any store that sells Wii's) and buy a new Wii. Then put your broken Wii in the box and take it back for a refund.
