Is that really true? it seems odd to me that there is a switch on the chip itself...

Do you have a WadDelete ISO that is set to autoboot, which you KNOW works? I have burned like 5 cd's now (and 1 dvd) - but NONE of them boot. I also verified that they are set to autoboot (verified with a hex editor) - but noting happends.......
Welllllllllllllllllllll, I suppose you can try opening the wii and changing the modchip to autoboot from there and try it again. GOD bless and i hope it works for you. And again, please do u have a boot.dol of bootmii for me because it might work for me because i think thatt when i uninstalled bootmii i just removed from sd card instead of from the wii itself... maybe

Just download the hackmii installer here - BootMii.org
The Zip-file have an installer.elf, just rename that to boot.elf..

I found out that discs signed with the Trunca tool will no longer boot with 4.1 FW, as the exploit used for the bug is fixed in the 4.1 FW... It is confirmed HERE!

Version 3.3 of the System Menu was released on 16th June 2008 checks for and deletes Twilight Hack and any other Twilight Princess saves exploiting the same vulnerability. However, it does not affect existing Homebrew Channel installations. It does, however, fix the signing bug, which prevents any "trucha"-signed discs from running, including the Homebrew Channel installer ISO versions.
I am downloading a non-scrubbed Wii game now, and will try to replace files in it.

Can you join the WiiHacks IRC channel? Its at irc.uicn.net - the channel is called #wiihacks (direct link: irc://irc.uicn.net/wiihacks )

EDIT: If you by "hard reset" means "go back to the day i bought it" - then NO! The only way to do that, is to load an earlier copy of the NAND into the Wii. You need to backup your nand first (else there is nothing to load into the wii) - and your NAND is encrypted with a key that only works on YOUR wii (eg, my nand cannot be loaded into your wii, and vica versa).

When you make your own DVD/CD for a Wii, you need to SIGN it (like you "sign a check") - but that signature on the DVD/CD, will not be accepted by the Wii, because it is not valid (it is not a Nintendo-signature). Then the trucha-bug came along.

It exploits an error in the firmware of your Wii that allowed homemade signatures to be used (eg, anyone could make an ISO, and sign it with the tool that guy trucha made). The error in the firmware was fixed in firmware 3.3, so if you are above that firmware you CANNOT use that bug. There is a tool, named "Trucha Bug Restorer" (currently v1.0 i believe) that will patch your Wii to be vulnerable again. Read more about that here, and there is a full guide to using it here.

As always, "if you don't need the feature, then don't pursue it!"

    Good luck. TwinA

You should only sign your own discs if you have changed the content of the discs. There is a guide to using the trucha-tool here.

REMEMBER! Autobooting trucha-discs will ONLY work if you have used the trucha-restorer to patch the vulnerability back into your IOS's.. OR if you have firmware v. 3.3 or OLDER (in which case you are vulnerable by default).

    Regards
