    Exclamation Black Screen Bricked Wii

Hey all, like so many others my Wii will boot up to a dead black screen but with the disc drive operable. I had 3.2e fw installed and ran the update with Guitar Hero Greatest Hits disc and bang, no more wii.
I have the homebrew channel, CIOS and bootmii2 installed as an IOS but no savemii or anything as such. I have a mod chip installed also.
I cannot get the gamecube controller trick to bring up the recovery menu.
Ive downloaded the 'Wii Backup Disk 1.31' and 'Universal Unbrick Disc 2v' and put them to discs but cannot get anything out of them.
Am I wasting my time or is there a glimmer of hope..?

you have to be able to flash the memory back somehow to the original or replace some chip or hardware. this issue is really annoying me. The whole system is fully functional except for a corrupt file that just needs to be fixed and then u have a fully functionally wii. Can anyone who has this problem. Like just a complete black screen have they used the save mii?? Sorry for hijacking your thread im trying to help you too

Did you downgrade your System Menu by installing 3.2 after having 4.0 at some point?

Preloader won't work if you've upgraded System Menu, it needs to be re-installed once you update.

Do you have bootmii installed as boot2?

Savemiifrii is the same as Savemii, it won't work without a system menu, neither will preloader.

Tealc99, that's exactly right, I had 3.2e with everything working fine, then updated to 4.1e. Everything started running rough and had a lot of crashes, so downgraded back to 3.2e.
As far as Bootmii goes, I'm pretty sure it said I could only install bootmii as a IOS, does that sound right?
Thanks for taking the time out to help too mate, really appreciate it. That goes for you too Zac and Cressida.

I'm sorry to say it looks like you've low level bricked your Wii.

You aren't the first whose Wii has fallen to the 4.0 to 3.2 disc update brick.(need better name) ,although this is the first I have seen on Guitar Hero Greatest Hits. It's to do with the 3.4 update on the discs and this is why it's a more recent type of Brick.

Bootmii as IOS isn't much use when it comes to a full brick as you'll need to be able to at least launch Homebrew Channel to run the program.

At the moment I know of no solution beyond bootmii (boot2) to recover from this brick as you effectively have no system menu to even boot recovery console.

Damn, that's just taken the wind outta my sails... Thanks for the advice anyway guys.
So what would you advise me to do next time in relation to soft modding.
eg. bootmii, preloader, NAND backup etc. Also, I read on another thread that there was a mod which allows you to play game discs with inbuilt updates without having to use the update, have I been misinformed?

The golden rule is don't update using official means, that means no Nintendo game updates and no Nintendo server updates.

Everything you need IOS and cIOS wise can be provided by the intelligent and handsome people in the Wii hacking community.

There is no game that we cannot run, even running a 3.2 or lower in some cases.

If you get a new Wii you'll be very unlikely be able to run Bootmii as boot2 due to that vunerability being closed by Nintendo and until the Hackmii guys can cirumvent this (may not be possible) you'll be stuck with IOS version of bootmii. Preloader is good but does require a functioning system menu to operate, so if you brick that preloader won't work.

Personally I haven't booted a Wii disc in about 2 months, all my games come off my WBFS hard drive attached to my Wii. No updates, no bricks. What could be better?

Thanks for the tips, I had started to back up my games and run them from an external HDD too, but when I tried to load the Guitar Hero game it came up with a 002 error, but when i tried the disc is when I found out it had an update attached. My Wii seemed to be only able to install bootmii as an IOS and mines almost 12 months old. Being new to all this I didn't know there was a difference.
An online shop here is Australia claim they can attempt to unbrick Wii's at no cost apart from $10 postage fee and an additional $30 if successful so I have sent them an email to see if they reckon it's worth sending to them.
