Any way to save my wii w/out sending to Nintendo?
So here's the situation. (There's a lot of stupidity in here, and I've already beat myself up over it.)
I used waninkoko's program to downgrade my IOS so that I could get wad manager to work. Everything was working fine, but then I tried to play punchout and it wanted me to do an update. I stupidly said yes b/c I didn't have the internet connection active and I figured that if it couldn't find the internet it would just skip the update (stupid move). So anyway, it updated anyway, from the disc I suppose, and now my Wii is fully bricked. No video, no sound.
I can get into bootmii, but unfortunately I never made a NAND backup (I wasn't aware of this option until after the fact).
So I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to recover my system's functionality given that I can get into bootmii. I tried going to the homebrew channel through bootmii but it won't load.
Is it possible for me to launch some kind of program from the SD card using bootmii that will let me do any kind of software changes/repairs?
Note: The Wii is not modded or anything, it only had changes to the software.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.
First off.. Doing a disc update doesnt brick your wii unless the game is an out of region game. So since your wii is bricked, the punchout game is obviously a different region then your console.
if you can access bootmii, you can install your system menu again...search on this site for system menu 3.2 wad or 4.0 wad...you should find in, launch wad manager and reinstall it
To the first responder, I doubt that the disc is from the wrong region. I rented it from a local blockbuster here in Seattle. I've heard of the region issue, but I've also read in some forums that people have had their Wii brick just from doing a system update after they had previously downgraded the ISO using waninkoko's downgrader. So this might be what happened to me.
To the second responder, is it possible for me to launch this from the SD card? I'm not sure how I would launch wad manager without at least being able to get into the homebrew channel (unfortunately when I try to get to the homebrew channel from bootmii it doesn't work). But I'll certainly try to see if I can launch wad manager from the SD card in bootmii, if you think this might work. Thanks.
Any other suggestions? I'll appreciate any more ideas from the knowledgeable folks on the forum. Thanks in advance.
I guess one of the big questions I have is this:
Given that I can't open the homebrew channel from bootmii (when I try it just gives me a corrupted screen), is there any other way I can launch an application using bootmii, such as from the SD card?
If not, then I'm probably screwed and I'll have to send to Nintendo. But if there is still a way for me to run some software that could allow me to try reinstalling the IOS or something, then maybe there's something that can be done. But I just don't know.

There's a discussion about this on the Hackmii site, it's a bit older but might give you some insight into why this happens.
