Heres my situation. I banner bricked my wii installing the gamma beta wad that was supposed to run wii sports resort.
I've managed to get into restore mode using a modded gamecube controller. Unfortunately every Wad Installer autoboot disc I've found on the net won't run. I've used ImgBurn to burn the discs just like any other wii game and the same media, so that shouldn't be the problem. I can hear the dvd drive reading the disc, then nothing. I'm just stuck with the 4.0 on the lower right corner.
At this point I'm about to write off the wii as bricked since I can't get any disc to autoboot in restore mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you need a modchip/cioscorp to autoboot homemade discs, i take it you have no preloader? Your best bet is to get yourself a chip...

Yep no preloader, I was thinking that may be the case since I put in a purchased disc that did autoload, but only to a black screen. I guess unless I get a chip I'll have to wait till the next firmware update by nintendo and buy a game with an update on it.
Is it confirmed that cioscorps work with it i haven't read any where about that....
I have a modchip and none of the autoboot discs I've tried will boot from the 4.0 recovery screen.
One more question, when Nintendo releases a firmware update, and I put the purchased disc in that has the update on it, will the recover screen go from the 4.0 on the bottom right to a message asking if I want to update my firmware (and essentially erase the screwed up wad packages)?
I just want to be sure this wii is recoverable otherwise I may just buy a new one

There is a video on youtube of someone using savemii or savemiifrii to do the update. Screen goes from version X to black screen for a while, then version Y shows up.
I too am hoping a 4.1 disc comes out (Sports Resort?) and will do a fresh install of the system menu + whatever...
there won't be a 4.1 disc for a while yet....is there even a 4 update on games yet? your best bet would be to get a drivekey or something and see if you can boot an autoboot disc, if not you can put your chip in your new wii...
