UN - "semi-brick" your "semi-bricked" walkthrough.

CREDITS: EMPEROROFCANADA & friends

If your system settings are locked, read this.

I thought I understood how all this Wii hack stuff worked. I didn't. In fact, I still don't. Everything is too technical and people don't type correctly, or they use horrible grammar and punctuation, or they just don't explain things as plainly as possible. The line "Explain it to me like I'm a two-year old" from the movie Philadelphia keeps ringing in my head.

I used Waninkoko's IOSdowngrader incorrectly (by incorrectly, I mean I selected downgrade version 3.3 that was from a "J" region instead of the correct "U" region (I live in the United States or Canada and automatically assume everyone else does too), but my Wii was already on version 3.3) and I guess it locked my settings. Everything else on the Wii worked fine, but I couldn't access anything in the settings, such as WiiConnect24 to turn on the standby connection, or to do a system update. So, Opera bricked? Region bricked? Semi-bricked? I don't know what the hell the difference is. My settings were locked after I did what I did, so call it what you want.

[EmperofCanada, If you read this, in NO WAY am I trying to take credit for what you did, or what you wrote. The only thing I'm trying to accomplish here is making it a tiny bit easier to understand steps 1 and 2. I apologize in advance if you feel like I'm stepping on your toes. Again, that is not my goal. If it weren't for you, my Wii's settings would still be locked. They've been locked since November and I've been trying to figure out how to unlock them since then, but found nothing. Seriously, I owe you and everyone else that you thanked a debt of gratitude.]

The EmperofCanada did an excellent, superb, high-five worthy job with his 3.1-3.4 Twilight/Downgrade/Starfall/Gamma walkthrough. Basically, I'm going to explain how I used HIS guide and everything else I did like you are all two years old. Class is about to begin, take your seats. And spit out that gum!

I bought my Wii from a retail store at a mall in Massachusetts. I guess that makes it an "NTSC" or whatever that means. My Wii has NO modchip in it and I already had the Homebrew channel installed. If you don't already have the homebrew channel, stop reading this entry, because you can't do any of this without it. Also, this may not work if you're not on firmware version 3.3, either. I suppose I should've told you that earlier. Well, try it anyway.

-Take the SD card you've been using with the homebrew channel and put it in your computer. Delete everything on it.
-Download the EmperorofCanada's files from the "3.1-3.4 Twilight/Downgrade/Starfall/Gamma" walkthrough. When finished, open the "EOC" folder. You should now see a folder called "EOC gamma pack". Open that.
Open the folder that says "Put onto SD card". You should now see four folders, "WAD, private, apps, 000001" and a DOL file. Copy ONLY the four folders to your SD card. Put the SD card back in the Wii.

Back on the Wii, open the homebrew channel. When a bunch of applications pop up, Choose "1. WAD Manager". When asked to select a file, choose "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad"

(EOC, I'd just like to add that even though you assured that this wad would work, I still doubted it would. When I didn't see the all-too-familiar ERROR! -2011 and saw that it WAS working, I could've kissed you.) When that's done installing, push the "home" button on the controller and the Wii will reset.
Again, open the hombrew channel. This time, choose "2. Custom WM". When prompted with a choice, select "cios_fix.wad". When that's done, hit the "home" button again.
Open the homebrew channel again. This time, choose "3. IOS Downgrader". Do what it tells you to do until it is done. Hit the "home" buton and your Wii will reset.

This is where I stopped following the EOC's guide and went off on my own, because I wasn't interested in starfall, or Gamma, or anything like that. I still have no idea what those programs do.

Next, open up the homebrew channel. Select "4. Custom IOS Downgrader". When the list of choices pops up, select 3.0U(Keeping in mind that I'm assuming everyone lives in the United States). When it's close to finishing, it should say something about changing a code or else your Wii will be semi-bricked (I guess that is the correct terminology), hit whatever button means "YES, ABSOLUTELY, ACCEPT, SI, UH-HUH". When that's done, hit the "home" button and your Wii will reset.
Open up the homebrew channel one last time. Select "4. Custom IOS Downgrader" again. This time, select 3.3U. Or J for Japan and E for Europe. It shouldn't say anything about country codes this time. When that's done, hit the "home" button and your Wii will reset.

Now, go to your Wii settings.

Now, hit the "Thank you" button ot the bottom of this page. Then, thank the EmperorofCanada. And everyone else he thanked.

I think I have a semi-Bricked wii. :[
I cant do anything on my wii, like if i start my wii up, it just says The system files are corrupted. Please refer to the wii operations manual for help troubleshooting. you can bearly read what it says, untill you press home, and for a split second it shows some of the words. What do I do?
I tried downloading a theme for the wii, and i got this =\

This worked perfectly for me, thanks!

Before I do anything else on my Wii, where would this leave me in terms of having to make further modifications? I started out at System Menu 4.0, would this leave me at 3.3? I'd like to remove the request to update my Firmware, but am terrified that I'm going to screw it up again.

Thumbs down

I have the same problem as the above two guys.

I know this fix would work for me, but my wireless internet isn't set up.

I have a signal but I can't configure it, of course, because of the OPERA BRICK!

Arghhh, what can I do?

Someone please help us.
